Jaylen Brown says even his mom was skeptical of his decision to pick Cal over a blue blood, but he wanted to challenge himself academically just in case basketball didn’t work out 💯

cal men's basketball:
back in the day multiple mcdonald all americans (shocky & his daughters shay and taylor family run cal's monster class targeted marketing segment of 15-20 readers) including jaylen brown read the MONSTER on a daily basis during their junior & senior years of high school
both then & now the branding decision for my yoga buddy has been to market jaylen as an INTELLECTUAL, brown's ultimate career path/goal is to OWN a NBA franchise
but there's ZERO chance that jb or shareef is gonna support cal basketball with shocky on the sidelines, that's just one of the unintended consequences of the termination of cal's monster class
cal's diamonds are forever class#

Jalen should be contributing big bucks to the Cal program. He can certainly afford it.

Jaylen > Jalen

Cal really needs to lean into its relationship with Jaylen Brown. Build that up; invite him back to attend special events and also to complete his degree. He's a great representative for Cal and can speak to why Cal is a great school for those with NBA aspirations.

This interview was linked in the article and is from about 10 months ago. JB is an interesting dude and I really believe that he has great capacity to express to potential Bears and current Bears alike, why it is important to challenge one's self not just in the sport they are proficient in, but also other areas. There needs to be something else. I also think Cam Jordan could have influence, and Shareef and Sean Marks, and plenty more. I don't expect that any of these guys would leave their positions, but even just sharing with the players, a series of talks and mentorship programs, all kinds of stuff could help further such an interesting and exceptional place like The UofC.
VIdeo is pretty long (approx 30 mins) but even watching a handful of minutes gives a nice glimpse into JB's mindset and expectation of self.

Agree with everything you said except the "UofC" part. It's Cal, California, or the University of California, Berkeley (per the multiversity's preference). Let's not confuse the matter more by adding another moniker that could apply equally as well to the University of Chicago, University of Colorado, and the University of Cincinnati.

With a lifetime of Cal fandom and more than 20 yrs with this site and previous versions of it, I don't need a lesson lol. I was just tired of typing and tried to be brief after being so long winded. I figure everybody here knows what I meant and wasn't worried about being precise in the moment. It's not like I was trying to educate outsiders, it says insiders right in the name.
When I post elsewhere I am very careful to use proper Cal English. Cheers
