FSU is 1-6 but playing well lately, much better than their record, with a road win at #32 Miami and a close loss at #38 SMU.

Miami is 5-2 and looks like a tourney team, would be a great road Q1 win for our resume.

Trying to figure out the net rankings system. Was this win a quad 1 win (because we beat a top 75 Stanford team on the road)?

It looks like it, since we're still 0-1 vs quad 2 after beating Furd:

Furd was 4-1 vs quad 1 before our game, that's why they were mentioned as a bubble team.

Based on KenPom here are FSU's *****s in the armor the Bears can exploit. Rankings out of 365 teams.

Offensive rebound %
When on offense: 105th
When on defense (allowed rebounds for the other team): 293rd
Block % (when on Offense, so blocks allowed): 348th
Steal % (when on offense, allowed): 296tb
FTA/FGA: 241st
Effective FG % on defense (weights 3s): 254th, bad for on offense, too.

Interpretation:
We can finally outrebound someone. Aggressive and active defense will result in steals and opportunities. They don't get to the line that much, so you can turn up the tough defense one more notch and not pay for it later on free throws,
Encouraging, this is a beatable team on the road, go Bears!

On the flip side, the Seminoles are really good at turning folks over, play at a high pace and run really well. They've come close to beating some great teams. Their ACC play has elevated them above the BCs and GTs in the conference

A lot of our offense and defensive strategy depends on Dort

Fingers crossed. (It would suck to miss the tournie based on his injury and one incurred on a miscue on a lob. I guess next man up ;-)

Despite my better judgment I've become an Ilic fan. I think if he's called up to fill Dort's considerably sized shoes he's up for it. Better hands than Dort, and he's got some grit.

According to the Advanced stats, Ilic has been our 6th most valuable player overall (7th if you count Petraitis), but he has been our MOST valuable player since the start of ACC conference play (with Dort second). The problem is not Ilic playing more if Dort is out, it is Kocanas playing more.

It is good that Camden came out of his funk. If we can get Bell going too we can be really dangerous.

The ACC website is showing Dort being out based on a report card filed on Tuesday night.

Ilic's passes alone are worth the price of admission. It's houdini-esque. So smooth. As long as the rest of the team is anticipating his dishes, we'll keep putting unexpected points on the board. He must be getting both healthier and more confident as he continues to make a bigger and bigger impact each week. I felt like he had no business being on a basketball court when the season started. That definitely not the case anymore.

Bell's 3pt shot (and it's current inconsistency) is frequently discussed here. But I also like his midrange game from 10 ft or so. This can really break down a zone defense, if they'd work to get him more shots there.

Bears are a 3.5 point dog.

It will be interesting how large the ACC refs will let the foul differential get. It generally depends on how stout an effort the two West Coast teams put up. Furd was getting slaughtered by Duke so the foul calling was even. In a close game, the refs are really assisted when the historical ACC team commits several intentional fouls in the closing two minutes so it looks like they called a fair game.

Not filled with overconfidence but if I am looking at that correctly, FSU has but 1 Quad !, 2, or 3 win....The other seven are cupcakes...Hope we can walk out with a win.

It should be noted that FSU has been playing a lot better recently.

They only lost by 4 to Duke and by 3 @ SMU...and they beat Miami on the road.

I expect a high scoring game. Hopefully the Bears end up with the higher amount of points

The only thing you learn from losing is how to lose more. Who would we rather be playing? They are in the bottom. Smash em!
