I love the optimism in this thread, but beating FSU and Duke when one cannot beat Pitt and Wake is one tall demand...But then, that's why the games are played.

Let me give you a little more optimism.
Earlier this year at FSU we played right with them before losing 63-61. As a long time gambler I have always believed in the "reversal theory" when two evenly matched teams are involved. That factor applies here.

At the very least I think our guys will be extremely focused. If the team plays as well as they can we have a decent chance to pull off the victory. No need to think about Duke, it's like they say, "one game at a time."

Plus we didn't have Dort for the first meeting

Like Cal06 said we also didn't have Dort and their big man killed us the most. Even still we missed the game winning shot by a few inches. Hoping the the shots fall for us for sure!

Especially the way Cal has played the last several games. All well below our season average in points per game and three point field goal percentage. It seems teams watching tape have figured out how to disrupt the offense - play physical, disrupt the weave, mix in zone, and eventually Cal players start settling for rushed, ill-advised threes.

I mean we have had plenty of open threes though that we just haven't hit. In both of the last two games we missed at least 10 open/wide open threes in each game. Hopefully those start to really fall.

Certainly beating Pitt and Wake (and/or Syracuse, Virginia Tech…) was the easier path, but you don't go to Cal to take the easy path. I honestly think our chances of beating Duke are higher than our chances of getting in if we don't beat Duke.

Cal hasn't shot better than 28% from three since the Stanford game at home on February 21st.

yeah I know I'm hoping that we wake up and start hitting them because we have been ice cold and we have had many many missed open threes over the course of all those games.

Would have to rewatch to count, but my recollection was not many, many open threes. There were certainly some plays that led to open looks, but I thought there were more rushed/contested threes. Either way, they need to do better against FSU

I mean in the GT game where we started 0-14 from 3 I counted 16/24 open threes and that doesn't include a few off balance threes and then one got blocked. I think the open ones for sure will start to fall.

This is a stat where it would be great to watch the game together over some beers, because what I think is an open three in the flow of the offense versus what you might count as an open three is probably different.

In any event, currently shooting 27% from three at the half versus FSU. Teams have figured out Cal's offense and Cal has not responded. Poor coaching.
