ASU basketball coaching search update:

shocky just finished a 45 minute conference call (initiated by my golf buddy/doggy dog rescue facility mega donor mr silverleaf sun angel) with several key asu stakeholders (using search firm elevate led by kyle bolsby that will be reporting to superstar athletic director graham rossini) re: my thoughts on mark madsen

tole them that mark is a high character/family man, high basketball iq developer of talent that is likable that could build a sweet 16 level program but that he's ****** right now in a no win cal hoops job with minimal NIL support, no basketball practice facility & near ZERO student attendance (and an aging season tix/donor fanbase that is losing 15% of them every year with no replacements)...his only weakness is a below average coaching staff but tole them that might be a function of a limited coaching staff talent pool budget as cal athletics are run by 2 don't give a **** worthless bureaucrats (who are NOT berkeley grads)

fun facts: asu offers FREE tixs to all students for men's basketball games, got nil fundraising that significantly exceeds cal and a 51,290 square foot state of the art weatherup center (2 regulation basketball courts) that serves as a practice facility for both the mens & womens program and will break ground on a $100,000,000+ renovation of the on campus wells fargo basketball arena this may

for those of you who don't think there are MAJOR consequences of jay & jenny running a ****show might be in for a surprise or two

Wonder if we will be able tell from the teams performance on Wednesday about the immanent departure to Madsen like we did with Cuonzo. Maybe by which players suddenly come down with the "flu".

If you were a player even remotely considering entering the portal would you play in this game? Why risk any sort of injury when there is a 7 figure payday awaiting? Dort has already been injured this season. Ames and Pippen have value and while it is possible both could stay is this a game worth the risk?

This doesn't really read like a coach whose departure is close to inevitable…

True. But it doesn't say he's staying either. Pleading for business owners to step up. Hope they do.

He talks about continuing to build at Cal.

Actually shocky can directly opine here from the place of a business owner (and it gets at Cal being Cal).

I read the MM quote with a subtext - that Cal is insisting that 3rd party NIL's meet the strict interpretation of the clearing house and maybe even a higher bar before being submitted (that bar being set by Cal bureaucrats).

But there is No way in god I am believing that any B2B (but I want shocky to help me get creative) could justify the value of a 50K endorsment from a power forward if you are trying to sell business insurance or CPA services. B2C maybe but has to be in a consumer segment that pays attention to college basketball players.

And that gets back to I think Shocks bigger point - that J&J and the other losers are killing the program.

Sadly, this makes sense. Lyons put the Director of Compliance in charge of the department and that will kill growth in any organization.

I don't read it that way at all. IMO -- let's put this in an ACC context -- Madsen is effectively saying that Cal basketball needs the kind of donor support that (for example) Virginia has, if Cal basketball is going to compete for the caliber of players that Virginia has. Or, Cal basketball can get as much donor ("business owner") support as (for example) Boston College has, and then get the caliber of players that Boston College has.

That is going to be true for any team. And one of the challenges is that asking donors for money for athletic facilities (e.g., Cal wanting a basketball-only practice facility, or on a much more extreme scale, Arizona State wanting $100 million to completely renovate its outdated arena) siphons off donor money that could have been used to recruit better players.

Sure seems as though ASU hasn't narrowed their search too much at this point. Could be a good sign.

Why would it matter then if you are a business owner. Why not wealthy retiree or trust fund baby? It is so it can be shown to be a "legit" marketing deal for access to their nil.

Randy is not moving from Moraga where he is embedded. If Mark decides to leave (not something that I believe will happen), perhaps Randy might consider commuting through the Caldecott Tunnel to Berkeley if he had the support of a competent AD and GM at Cal.

That is the implication, sadly. Cal compliance once again going above and beyond the NCAA. Crazy. The Clearinghouse hasn't rejected an NIL deal yet. There is zero legal requirement or ability to enforce "pure Name, image and likeness" compensation only. If the NCAA tries to prevent pay to play they will lose in the courts.

Didn't Cuonzo leave to catch his cab to OAK airport with 6 minutes left in the CSUB game? Rabb lost millions hanging around an extra year because he would have been overvalued in the draft had he left with J Brown.

shocky's newly incorporated sports book betting site monsterloseurazz.com thinks the current asu leaders for this opening are madsen, glasser (went to asu & high school with harden) or new mexico's eric olen (who did miracles at uc san diego prior to albuquerque, he's also a finalist at boston college)

https://instagr.am/p/DSKQkgREyAi
asu men's basketball head coach search update:

elenora as the spokesperson for monsterloseurazz.com is now reporting that eric olen is a near lock to become the sun devil head coach...according to mr silverleaf sun angel eric olen (whose tritons beat the bears) went to elementary & junior high with asu's superstar athletic director graham rossini who got buy in from olen to try to finalize a deal to bring in glasser as an associate head coach to trigger the harden money to raise the total asu nil & revenue sharing for hoops to $10,000,000+ which is the # necessary to compete for a future big 12 championship (retaining 7'1" 230 lbs diop is the staff's #1 priority)...olen's lobos play a nit game tonite

this is a massive step forward for the asu hoops program & shocky has been graciously invited to be a guest on the floor next season and even asked if he got any interest in starting an asu monster class thread to impact recruiting & activate gameday attendance (along with his wildly successful doggy dog rescue facilities fundraising in the valley of the sun)

as for cal madsen (never got an actionable offer, the "insiders" & the university wuz negotiating with themselves, this is next level sun tzu **** by the monster) strategically utilized his interviewing with asu & showing "significant interest" to leverage cal for more resources...and none of that would've evah happened without the monster publicizing the mad dog asu interview which wuz them repeated by twitter & the mainstream media

ur welcome mark!!

Thanks for the update. While some sort of practice facility and increased NIL are welcome and tangible benefits, I think most fans and supporters are in agreement that we need a worthy Athletic Director (have we had someone since Steve Gladstone?). As you pointed out previously Shocky, the Chancellor should not have to be involved in negotiations and details properly handled by an AD. The Chancellor does need to have the correct person in that position so that he doesn't need to be micromanaging issues within the various sports programs. Even if a Basketball GM materializes similar to what football has with Ron Rivera, we still need an active and engaged AD to get our programs working properly with marketing as well.

I seem to recall, that during half time, Cuonzo was seen stuffing over two dozen water bottles into his 'go' bag'.

I was at the vaunted Bakersfield game. Only two out of the eight in our season ticket group attended.

What I can tell you is that, when I got back to my car, Cuonzo was doing the post-game radio show interview. His last two words were "Go Bears.".
