Given the time and opponent the attendance was predictably small, about what I see at WBB games against lesser teams. However the noise and energy were good.

A small band showed up and only played a few songs. My measure is the number of tubas, just one who arrived late and left early.

I noticed many periods of commendably reduced volume on the sound system. Then they would overdo it and I'd have to put on earmuffs.

Officiating might be a bit off topic but stood out for inconsistency and blown calls. Madsen was after the officials more than usual, justifiably so.

It was nice to have less stupid promotions, glitz and high-volume sound for a change. That said, the only reason we didn't have it, I suspect, was that the incompetents in the AD couldn't put much together on short notice. Maybe they had to return the rented flame throwers they would use in player introductions.

Just realized: Maybe the flamethrowers are on their way to the Persian Gulf!

It makes me a little sad to have to give a poor grade to one of my favorite groups, the Straw Hat Band. They did not have a very good month of March.

I missed flaming the Flames this week but will be there Sunday to beat St. Joe's. I don't know why I'm surprised at the apathy among the Cal fans, but this is the first postseason play this decade so i was expecting more. Thanks to the faithful who show no matter what, Go Bears!

Those flamethrowers are menace. I'm sure they could get a better show with LEDs, which would also be much safer. But I'm not sure what either have to do with basketball.

The flamethrower thing seems like something that could go badly sideways (thinking of the tragic Swiss nightclub incident).

Literally sideways if it springs a leak. Or comes loose from its mount. Terrible idea. Jay & Jenny?

Our seats are not too, too close to the flames. And yet, I could still easily feel the heat. Kept imagining how hot it must've been at the top of Haas, right above the flames. Hoping they had this all figured out with the Fire Dept, etc.

As for the lack of stupid promotions during the game, I believe that it because the NIT and WBIT games are officially considered 'neutral site' games, even though we are hosting, so they don't do all of the Cal-centric promos during the timeouts and whatnot.
