Marta Suarez was one of my all-time favorite CAL women basketball players. I wish we could have kept her. Now at TCU, she is looking like a potential, WNBA first-round draft choice. Good for her.

I talked to her after the last game last year and specifically asked her is she is coming back. She said she is not sure so I suspected that she was looking at other opportunities. I just did a search and found that she is represented by Disrupt the Game.

Last year an NIL was set up for the 5 international players and 3 of the 4 freshmen (Zahra had her own NIL so she wasn't part of this NIL which had the players interact with MLK). I contributed to this and when I found that the money would be split equally between the 8, I made another donation that was 3X the total donated and specified that it be split equally between Marta, Ionna , and Lulu. But this was probably minor compared to what she is getting this year with an agent.

Very interesting. Thanks for your look inside the glass and for your financial contributions. Well, she is in a great place now, as a major contributor on a highly ranked, 19-2 TCU squad. For those with YouTube tv, you can add the TCU women's games to the recording library and see how she has grown.

She earned her degree at Cal so I am pleased about that. I can't blame her for wanting to join a team with Olivia Miles, a top draft prospect, and position herself for future opportunities.

FWIW here's a pretty recent draft projection: https://wbasketballblog.com/2026/01/09/2026-wnba-mock-draft-4-0/

She seemed to be overcoming her TO problems at TCU, but recently she had 7 TO's in a single game. In the same game against West Virginia, she shot 4-19 from the field.

Saw a post-game with coach and Marta

Coach was giving her big props saying she is a great player who can do everything, except she needs to cut down on turnovers

Still there was a lot of criticism of her for turnovers when she was at Cal. No one wants turnovers but she was so good that she was still a big net positive

She has some really good skills, but gets into trouble when she tries to be a superstar. Reminiscent of her 8 TO's in our NCAA tournament game last year.
