I was pretty shocked when I looked at Virginia's stats in the ACC. They really stand out in two areas:
1. They are #2 in rebounding and #1 in rebounding margin versus opponents.
2, They are #1 in assists and #1 in assist/TO ratio.
That is obviously a powerful combination.

One clue in how to beat them - Wake Forest took them to triple overtime by shooting 51% from the field. So they do have defensive lapses.

I think we will need to do three things:
1. Try to keep them off of the boards as best we can.
2. Shoot lights out from outside, which we can do.
3. The usual - limit our own TO's and keep as close as possible to Virginia's TO level. That will be especially important in this game.

The Cavaliers have 13 players on their roster. They have six forwards (6-2 to 6-5) and seven guards (including a pair of 6-2 & 6-3 ones). UVA has eight players that stand 6-2 to 6-5! Nine of the thirteen are transfers, too. Their two starting guards, Kymora Johnson and Paris Clark, average 9.2 assists and 28.2 points per game between them.

What I find interesting about Virginia is that while they are 9-4 in ACC, they have no Quad 3 or Quad 4 games left. They have three Quad 1: Louisville, NC, and Stanford, and two Quad 2: Cal and Virginia Tech. They are in 81st place (if I am reading this right) in average NET of their competition, while Cal's schedule so far has been tougher...Cal has had the 39th toughest schedule. It's conceivable that Virginia will finish 9-9.

Cal looks like a different team over the last couple of games. Their offensive prowess has increased unbelievably!
Nobody on the Cavaliers has more than 7 points. Kymora Johnson and Paris Clark have been held to 4 & 5 points, respectively. We'll see if the Bears can continue performing at a high level to hold off a comeback by UVA.
Bears are even outrebounding the Cavaliers by three at halftime. GO BEARS!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here comes Virginia with the initial three baskets of the 3rd quarter. Langarita is 1-12 on her wide-open trey attempts this season. She needs to make one. She's the weak link that is playing for Taylor Barnes. UVA has already cut Cal's lead to single digits (9) by outscoring us 9-2.

VA closed out the third on a 7-0 run to cut Cal's lead in half, 8 points. Cavaliers increased their defensive intensity and held the home team to only 8 points. Bears must respond in the final period if they expect to hold onto that margin.

13-2 run by UVA as they cut the margin to 4 points. Cal looks like a deer caught in the headlights. Someone will have to score and quit turning the ball over and missing shots. The momentum is all Cavaliers.

Twidale converts clutch free throws and Cal upsets UVA, 64-58! Cavaliers outplayed and outscored the Bears in the second half, 29-19. Huge home victory! GO BEARS!
