I know it's a bit of an old tired subject, but I have to say it. I've been going to Cal basketball games (men & women) for close to 60 years. Hundreds of games. Over that time I've seen quite a bit of bad officiating. Last night might have been the worst officiating I've ever seen. The refs calls were both inaccurate and didn't match the game's physicality. Late in the game the Santa Clara player under the basket literally jumped up with two feet with the ball, landed on the same two feet, and all three refs missed it.

This is not a "the refs are against us" complaint, it is simply that some of the refs we get for these Women's games are completely incompetent.

Also, I find the "challenge" rule completely horrible. What has basketball become? I'm at the game, all of a sudden a call is "challenged." So basically because these refs are so bad the team is allowed to challenge a subjective call. And as a fan who is trying to enjoy the pace of the game, now everyone has to sit while it takes the refs 3 minutes to review the play, followed by another 3 minutes for them to discuss it. Really brutal.

Two words: Melissa Barlow

She was the crew chief last night. Remember her from our Pac-12 days? Well, she's still up to her old tricks... and not in a good way.

That missed travel was pretty bad as was a challenge reversal on a bang bang charge/block. That should not be reviewable. The call on the floor would need to be shown so wrong it needs to be reversed but that is not possible on such a fast and subjective play.
