Anyone else going to the Sweet Sixteen and Elite 8 in Sacramento? We got seats when they went on sale, and I'm looking forward to seeing Marta play for TCU against Virginia on Saturday, after South Carolina and Oklahoma square off. Friday's games are UCLA and Minnesota and Duke against LSU.

And, of course, that's after Cal beats Columbia on Thursday! Lots of basketball coming up.

Northern California is the Center of the College Basketball Universe right now.

Sacramento hosting the women's tournament participants. San Jose hosting the men's tournament participants.

And the WBIT in Berkeley! Go Bears!!

Have fun in Sacramento!

I feel the same way about Virginia! The coach and players are quality participants for their WBB Program. Marta is playing very well and is a team player. I 'm a little down on TCU after watching Olivia Miles play in their last game. She seems arrogant, and not involved with her teammates. Her behavior on the court isn't always becoming. I am sure Marta will make the WNBA Draft, maybe not the first round, but is a strong player, has size, and makes many 3's! I will be watching all the games on TV.

I stopped rooting for Marta (and any other former Cal player) when she/he leaves for greener pastures. Of course I live when we get great transfers coming to Cal.

The NBA updated their WNBA MOCK DRAFT on March 23rd....It had Marta Suarez as 36th out of 38 players going to the Toronto Tempo. Of course there will be so many changes with the teams, who knows, I thought she would be selected in the upper 2nd round. Let's see how far TCU goes in the tournament. Of course, the focus is on Olivia Miles, who will be a high first round draft choice. Last fall and earlier this year Mock Drafts had Marta being listed much, much higher. The Best to her!!

I would think Marta's performance so far, especially in today's game, will boost her chances of moving up in the WNBA Draft. She will be 24 years old in May. She took time off from Tennesee to spend time with her Mother, who was terminally ill with cancer. I think it was amazing she came to Cal after losing her Mom. She played very well for the Bears. I assume she received her degree from Cal last May. I am happy playing for TCU has worked out so well for her!

Marta with a career high 33 pts (and 10 rebounds) for a double double)! TCU beats UVA 79-69 and are on to the Elite 8.

I hope that it doesn't give someone like Lulu second thoughts about staying at Cal. How much did TCU pay Marta?

Marta and Olivia Miles scored or assisted on all 79 of TCU's points. If you can get the right top players, you can build around them, at least up until the Elite Eight level. But they will next face much tougher teams.

Marta played a wonderful game, and having Miles to handle the ball helped her reduce her turnovers. She had a smile on the whole game, even when she missed a free throw (shooting 90%) and a bunny (still got two free throws out of that one). In her post game interview she thanked her former teammates who showed up to cheer her on…not sure who she meant, but my daughter thought she saw Lulu. Sakima was here (I know she wasn't Marta's teammate), cheering on South Carolina, and in turn getting a hearty greeting from
Aja Wilson, I believe. I saw Sakima in the concession line and thanked her for coming to Cal and giving us such an enjoyable year, and commiserating that she was here instead of on a plane to Wichita for the WBIT Final Four. Wished her much success in all future endeavors, and I was rewarded with a big hug.

In some ways, Marta's journey may actually become our best recruiting model. Come to Cal for a few years, enjoy the Bay Area, get a great degree, and then move on for your final year if you want to go for more money. I could live with that if we could get similar players for 2-3 years at a time. We might even want to come up with a three-year degree program if you go to school year-round.

(From her bio on Calbears.com): Jenny Huth was an assistant coach at UCLA (2011-18). While there, she worked with Jordin Canada among others.

Charmin is in the house. Go Marta! SC vs TCU, winner goes to the Final Four. I imagine SC is the big favorite

Rough day for Marta - 4 of 17 FG, 1 of 8 threes.

Rough day for TCU - 33% FG, out-rebounded 52 to 24.

That extra South Carolina athleticism let them control the game.

Same Final Four teams two years in a row. Concentration of wealth and power in the NIL era may soon become predictable and boring.

Freshman Agot Makeer of South Carolina had an amazing game coming off the bench.
18 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals in 31 minutes.
She was ranked #6 in the 2025 class.

I wonder how long it will take for this will kill the sport?

I enjoy watching elite talent. But I more enjoy watching actual competition.

We were talking about this after the game. Blowouts shouldn't occur between #1 and #2, like what happened with Texas and Michigan, or even #1 and #3, like tonight. The gap is getting worse. As I mentioned before, no college outside of the Power 5 (is that what they call it in NCAAW?) made it out of the first round. Yes, the elite battles coming up (UConn/South Carolina and Texas/UCLA) should be very competitive, but…

And Marta did make the All Regional team, but what a rough night…sigh…
