I know this observation is way more general than specific, but watching Cal's half court offense for the last 3 or 4 years there's one thing I think most everyone can agree on. Regardless of whether Cal wins or loses, it seems like our half court offense always resorts to more dribbling and ball screens, while our opponents in most cases do a lot more passing and have better spacing when they run their half court sets. I think this was really magnified in last night's game. Columbia moved the ball. Our offense was more about the point guard dribbling and waiting for the offense to set a screen - away from the ball or on the ballhandler's defender.
Next season I hope Charmin can come up with something to run that mirrors something like Columbia showed us last night. Until that happens it feels like our success will always be limited.
