Well, Columbia is up by 15 at the half vs Wisconsin,...just doing what they do - good defense, great ball movement, everyone willing to take shots and go one on one to get shots...

Columbia wins 67 to 50.

So far Columbia has won by 48, 29, 6, and 17. Our game is the only close one.

The Lions outscored the Badgers in every quarter, and the game was never in doubt.

And BYU just beat Kansas in a tight game, so they'll play Columbia on Wednesday for the WBIT championship.

Well, unless one or two of Columbia's three guards get in foul trouble…I think Columbia wins…

Columbia is an amazing story and I hope they win the championship ... how have they done it?

One thing that stands out in their stats is their consistent positive rebounding margin in WBIT games. And the rebounds are coming from all five of their starters instead of from just a couple of big people. I am going to focus on that against BYU and try to see more of their strategy and technique in that area. And, of course, they have those midrange shots as a key part of their offense.

Columbia up 34-18 over BYU midway through 2nd quarter.

Now, 42-24 at halftime!
Go Lions!!

Lions up by 23 entering the final quarter. Clearly they should have been a higher seed. Perhaps then we would have met them in the final.

Watched their excellent rebounding.. Old-fashioned approach of putting a body on somebody before going for the ball. But also good awareness of where the ball would eventually end up, and sometimes holding a box-out in anticipation of one of their guards coming in to rebound. Suspect that this has involved a whole lot of attention in practice.

Good point. We looked like the second best team in the WBIT.

However BYU ended up with 21 steals, I believe most in the last quarter. That's impressive.

9 international players, 0 transfers. Maybe a good coach whose players stay long enough to become a team.

No athletic scholarships in the Ivy League.. So they all have additional academic reasons for being there.

Their women's basketball budget is $2.8 million versus our own $8 million last year.

Congrats to Columbia for winning the Championship

I think both the MBB and WBB teams should recruit more international players

WBB has been successful doing so to some extent (Lulu, Ionna) and the incoming freshmen recruits

For the men we've only had moderate success with some Canadians, Euros and Iliac but no top players

Going back a bit I remember Marta Suarez, Evelien Lutje-Schipholt, and Penina Davidson. Alma Elsnitz could have been good but never came fully back from a bad injury in her first game at Cal.

And going way back Milica Vukadinovic and Jackie Lear.

And way, way back Sophie von Saldern.

Wikipedia says she was born in Hemet, CA. Seems like another world to me.

Ahhh...I realize now you were referring to international recruits...I was thinking successful transfers (even from Hemet...) Oops.

WBIT CHAMPIONS! Columbia Takes Down BYU, 81-64, for the Title - Columbia University Athletics

Columbia Lions blow out BYU Cougars for WBIT championship. They were really a good team that was well coached in every aspect of the game. Cal was the only competitive game for them. Congratulations.
