That's what a dominant team can look like in the NIL era. But have to say that Cori Close has also paid her dues in college women's basketball.

Coach Cori Close had a notable mentor for many years.

From the Los Angeles Times:

"John Wooden treated Cori Close like, well, a great-granddaughter.

Every other Tuesday for several years, they would meet. Even after Close moved across the country, they continued to meet. Right up until Wooden died in 2010, they were in consistent contact.

Wooden would teach. Close would listen. Wooden would host her for breakfast at the VIP's Cafe. Close would surprise him at his condo with his favorite lemon custard ice cream from Baskin-Robbins.

For 17 years, they talked basketball without ever really talking basketball. For 17 years, Wooden hoisted Close on a climb through her own personal pyramid of success, first as a UCLA assistant, then UC Santa Barbara assistant, then a Florida State assistant.

A year after Wooden's death, Close became head coach at UCLA. Wooden never saw it, but he always knew it, and in many ways he helped create it."

I'm thinking that maybe Charmin needs a mentor as well.

I doubt ucla had the highest NIL of the elite eight

Close was able to keep Kiki and recruit Betts, and restore her confidence

Lauren liked ucla enough for her sister to join

Stanford coaches couldn't do that

And then there was the assist

plus She got in transfers Ledger-Walker and Kneepkens and also Cal De-Commit Dukalic. Did Jaquez go straight to UCLA?

Londynn Jones transferred from UCLA to USC hoping to be a part of a championship team with Juju. She could have been a part of this one.

Lifelong dream to go to UCLA along with her brother, who was on the men's team. She really did improve over the the years and put in the time and effort.

A little bitter aren't you? This was a very likable team and love to see Stanford's decline in women's hoops.

UCLA was better without Londynn. She was too short to play good defense and has a propensity to take ill advised shots.

Agree with that. She made the wrong move, but it helped UCLA.

I think she saw the writing on the wall with Charlisse Leger-Walker returning from injury and Gianna Kneepkens transferring from Utah, she wouldn't see much playing time at UCLA.

I sadly shoul follow womens hoops better. Just good old fashioned recruiting wins explains ucla?

Yep. 4 plus years at Cal without beating UCLA in either football or basketball. Oh did I mention we had them beat out for the Rose Bowl, only to play the worst game of the year?
I can like some of the players without liking the team...

Top six scorers are all seniors and/or grad transfers.

Would you have preferred that Lauren Betts stayed at Stanfurd and Stanfurd went on to win a natty? Seems to me that Betts leaving Stanfurd was the beginning of the decline of the program. The trees are a shell of their former selves. Now we need Cal to take advantage of the decline of Stanfurd women's hoops.

Stanford will be in a quandary if they do fire Paye. Should they stick with Tara's coaching tree? Charlie Turner Thorne would be a great choice if she still wants to coach at age 60. The best young coach out of Stanford would probably be 36-year-old Lindy La Rocque, head coach at UNLV for the past six years. Has had a 78% winning percentage and three trips to the NCAA's and two to the WBIT, along with four first place finishes in the Mountain West. But they will also really need to start playing the NIL game.

An I remembering correctly? Don't they have an awesome bunch of freshmen coming in? If so, might they decommit if Paye is gone?

A couple of good players, but ESPN does not rank their recruiting class in their Top 25. I will have to find if they did any additional international recruiting.

Stanturd has many other former players on their staff including McCall, Pohlen, Steding, etc...

After these past two years, I think they will go outside that group and get somebody with a successful head coaching record.

Best thing that could happen for us would be that they don't make a change and that the portal losses continue.

Um, I never mentioned Furd, so not sure why that's some philosophical comparison for me. I would have rather that UCLA was upset in the first round if you are looking for my preference.
