2026 Softball Coaches - CBU Athletics

Brandon Telesco is the HC of Cal Baptist and Haylei Archer is their pitching coach. They will be playing UCSD at approximately 12:30 pm PST. The Lancers just defeated the Oregon State Beavers in 8 innings and are 9-3.

Miranda De Nava was their starting pitcher.

Let's just say I think it'll be a good learning experience for our young team (nervous laugh).

Lost 4-5 to Fresno St.

Last time I saw they were down 0-8 to Nevada before live stats froze. Someone needs to do a better job on the live stats. But it'll be on ACC Network when conference play starts

Fyi. Easy enough to find on espn.com/college sports/ women's sports.

I found it on ESPN page but still Cal should do a better job of having scoring updates on their web site.

These next three games could be brutal for Cal's pitching. All five pitchers have ERAs in excess of 5 runs per game. Those numbers could double against Oklahoma, Nebraska & Auburn. Thank God for inserting the 5 inning mercy rule.

Cal is up 4-2 over #4 Oklahoma after 5 innings behind Tamya Waiters. Bears have a weak infield defense on the right side of the infield w/ Anaya Togia at second base and Anya German at first base. Both have negligible range and both have made errors on balls hit directly to them with the bases loaded. OU has been grounding hits through the right side throughout the game. It's now 7-4 Oklahoma.

4-2 headed into top6 vs Sooners...

Sounds like we may have a reliable starter in her. We just need a reliever for her.

Auburn crushed Cal pitching, 19-5. Nebraska hit a grand slam in the 6th off of Waiters for 6-0 victory.

Tamya Waiters is the only decent pitcher that Cal has but she can only last five innings. She held #4 Oklahoma & #6 Nebraska to 2 and 1 runs, respectively, through five frames. Those ranked teams broke their games open with big sixth innings.

Waiters gave up a 2run hr in the b1 today and then was pulled for Peacock, who then gave up 4. Not sure why she got pulled so early

Cal's stormed back in the 7th.

I tried to get there yesterday after my Thursday game. I would have made it to see the runrule game against Florida for the last inning. Didn't go because of it. I'll get a game or two between today, Friday and Sunday.

I just noticed Florida won its second game yesterday 28-0.

I had to check twice that I wasn't looking at a football score.

Mya McGowan has been giving up a HR every inning that she pitches. In the opener, she yielded a two-run shot to Oregon State in their last AB. In the 1st inning tonight, McGowan yields a towering HR by Lopez. Mya is hittable on her one speed fast ball. I have not seen any movement on her pitches, but she did throw a change-up.

Another error on Emma Jackson-she dropped the throw at second base for a force out. She made the only error in the opener. Deep fly ball to CF dropped by Kayli Counts.

This defense does not make plays that must be made to win games several times per game. I do not enjoy watching this caliber of Cal softball. Gator Robinson had easy forceout at second base, but Emma Jackson stayed behind the base and let the runner make it back for a close play. Terrible. Bears scored three runs in the first without benefit of a hit yet have given all three runs back in two innings off of McGowan.

Peacock is in for the third inning, but batters hit the ball hard off of her. Three bullets and Fullerton has the lead, 4-3 after three frames.

Bear batters have struck out 9 times in four innings. They cannot hit off speed pitches. Cal left-handed hitters also really struggle against left-handed pitchers. Most of them struck out.

I'm outta here for tonight.
