Shocky1 has been saying very mean, very personal, very offensive things about individuals who work for Cal athletics.

I'm not here very often -- just a few times a month, at most -- but I see these attacks just about every time I'm here. And it's gone on, I think, for at least a year, if not much longer. A post about nearly anything can be an excuse to attack one Cal staff person in particular. It's relentless.

This is a fan site, so I understand that people bring a certain level and type of energy here. But this is pretty brutal. It seems like the type of activity that most monitored sites would prohibit.

I incorrectly assumed he'd be banned when he started using slurs to describe people. I had to blink twice when I saw him use the word re***d to describe someone in...2026.

I just write him off as being a deeply disturbed individual. I wish him well.

Exactly. I've got their posts blocked/ignored, so I can only see them if they are quoted. WhatABonanza- Always a good option!

Frankly he's ruining the experience of being on this website, which I have been a part of since early Tedford (under a different handle but that's besides the point). His attacks are specific enough to be all binned in a single thread, and personally I think the moderators should ask him to do so.

He is being detrimental to most people's experiences here and because he feels strongly about his fight, he feels he has carte blanche to post his attacks in any manner, frequency, or topic; i.e. he's not going to stop on his own. (We have too many people like this in society today but perhaps that too is besides the point). I think the Cal Athletic/fan community deserves a better platform than that.

Doesn't look like he played a sport at any level to back his opinions!

I'm old enough to know that should be good enough, but young enough to still be bothered that behavior like that is allowed to fester.

There is an informative thread on the insider forum which details the crappy jobs that our co-ADs have done. And the major points against them and their old boss Airforce JK are made by the insider who quite frankly has been instrumental in reviving and funding our football program.

I personally do not mind Shocky's efforts to expose their lackluster performance, but I can understand the objections raised by his critics. But I think censoring his comments is not justified.
I suggest that offended posters simply block him from their Bearinsider feed and do not venture on to his long form thread,

If you think our co-ADs are doing a great job, let Rich Lyons know and back up your support with donations.

I think that's the issue, Swan. He posts these deranged rants in most threads on the women's basketball forums and takes over most threads in Olympic sports (see the softball threads). He calls people ret***s and dumb***es if they disagree with him. It's like he's a cancer that spreads to everyone's experience. This is why I finally had to block him.

Nobody would care (or at least I wouldn't) if he kept it to his own thread. Stop ruining the experience for everyone else on every damn thread.

I see Shocky1 is still being Shocky1. I generally avoid his posts. Life's too short to pay attention to big egos. If he posts something offensive, you can click on the flag in the lower right corner of his posts and report it to the moderators. If they get enough complaints, sometimes they edit the posts or eventually take stronger steps..

I hear those who suggest those of us who find his posts offensive can just block Shocky1 -- that we don't need to read his posts and we can just ignore him. But I don't want to ignore this type of behavior. I want there to be consequences for his bullying. I think he should be banned.

On a site like this, he is cancerous, in my view. The relentless negativity is bad enough -- the personal attacks cross any reasonable line. And as CalFanatic pointed out, he shows up all over the place. To stick with the cancer analogy, he has metastasized.

You know he's completely wrong about me and a lot of things and yet types madly away as if he can't possibly be wrong…? If he's our best poster that's a little sad. Perhaps more a reflection of how far the bar has dropped.

I had no idea why the heck he wanted to disparage cold weather softball teams but away he went on his quest to disparage the Cal team. My daughter plays at a cold weather school and I know for a fact he has his head up his derierre but alas he just spouts what he wants to spout. So a little BS on the baseball/olympic board as a sacrificial lamb for juicy info on the basketball board? I'm a basktball fan as much as the next guy but if his value lies there then he should post his drivel there too and let the other boards be free of his crap. It's not much to ask to have his scope limited when he's choosing to act the way he does.

Shocky's style can be hyperbolic, brutal, and juvenile but MANY times his opinions are right on the money. He also brings insights that likely come from insider sources which is exactly what I'm looking for. If you don't like his style, skip his posts. But I always seek his posts out for both information and entertainment. He's a passionate Cal fan who doesn't hold back.

Let me be clear on a few things:

• Public figures like Jenny and Jay are absolutely fair game for criticism. However, they cannot be attacked personally or degraded as human beings. Professional criticism - sure, the rest is not okay
• These are message boards and people are going to be opionated, emotional, and as the saying goes, "often wrong but never in doubt". Do not assume what folks post is the truth. Ask questions, get curious, ask the mods to verify, but remain skeptical

Furthermore, thank you for stating the obvious… the accusations against me and my identity are incorrect.

I've met members on this board, been to games over the last few decades with people on this board that I respect, and I'm very clearly not the individual of focus on this thread. I will flag any accusations against me otherwise.
