The final week of the regular season has arrived for the California baseball team, which hosts Stanford in a three-game series that begins Thursday night at Evans Diamond at Stu Gordon Stadium.

The Golden Bears (27-24, 10-17 ACC) are coming off a three-win week having defeated Pacific 2-1 in a midweek road matchup before taking two of three on the road at No. 23 Virginia for their first ranked wins of the season. Cal has already surpassed its win count from last season of 24 and has set a new program-best picking up its 10th ACC win on Sunday with three games still to be played. The Bears will be looking to keep their momentum going with a strong performance in this rivalry series that will play a huge role in seeding for the ACC Tournament, which begins May 19.

Saturday's regular-season finale marks Senior Day in which Cal's nine graduates will be honored in a pregame ceremony.

The Cardinal (25-23, 12-15 ACC), which has only played 13 away games this season, comes across the Bay having just taken two of three from a very strong NC State team at home, but was swept by Notre Dame the weekend prior. The team will face Saint Mary's on Tuesday in its final nonconference matchup of the year. Stanford currently sits in 10th place in the ACC standings with two more wins than Cal, which is in a tie for 13th.

Cal comes up short in the first game.

Bears fell behind in the first inning with 4 runs by furds and couldn't quit get out of the hole losing 7-6. Not sure why the Bears started Jen Wright who is not normally one of their starters. He couldn't retire anyone before he was pulled. Bears normal starter are Gavin Eddy or Oliver De Torres in the first two games of a series. Possibly since ACC playoffs starts this coming Tuesday saving them for the playoffs. Makes sense ... no matter what the outcome against the Furds, we would be playing in the first round of the playoffs. Save are starters.

Bears down 1-0 in the top of the 6th. But they've missed at least two scoring opportunities so far.
