I've been somewhat critical and skeptical of Madsen and co at points in the past, but I don't know how anyone can't be thrilled with where he has this program at the moment. To have us positioned as a bubble team in February in year 3 is a coup given where the program was when he took over, and the limited NIL resources he has been granted.
At this point, I'm only concerned about our NIL situation. Even if we get it to just about the median NIL pot in the ACC, I'm confident that Madsen can bring in the talent necessary to have us competitive every year. It's clear that he and his staff are gifted recruiters and talent evaluators.
On top of the success we've had this year, this roster is also Madsen's first that has a potential returning core to build off of. If we're able to keep that core, the sky will be the limit moving forward.
I'm pro-Madsen, always have been. Seems like a lot of wasted Forum ink on whether he's the right coach. Can't we all agree that his extension makes that question irrelevant until 2030? We're not making any changes and taking buyout damage, so better just to put a 3-year pause on the griping, we work with what we have.
I do know this… it is way beyond my expectations that we're still a bubble team in February, esp. given the injuries. I'm doubtful but hopeful for that 7-2 finish to slide into the Madness, but I'll also take a three-game NIT run.
On a different note, anyone know why we have to sneak out of work on a weekday just to see Cal bball? 5 pm start seems odd.
I mean, if things were really bad under him then potentially you could still buy him out like Wilcox. Pass the donor hat around, etc.
But so far they aren't. The team is improving. No reason to think about cutting him loose yet.
