Next year we are going to be just like Virginia is this year, if we can keep Dort and Pippen.

Dort has played four seasons of college basketball… what am I missing here, how is he coming back?

Bears constipation at guard play and shooting from the arc is due for a major colon blow on the Demon Deacon's head.

In 2023-24, Dort played exactly one game for 7 minutes. BTW, do you hope he comes back?

No, I would not want him to come back, we can do a lot better. But I do want him to make the best choice for his own success.
You're assuming a lot about Dort's life plans. So he'd rather be forced to take graduate classes, get paid who-knows-what, and deal with the unpredictability of the NCAA response to an application for an extra year rather than make professional $$$ in another country? All to play a 3rd year at Cal when we have a 7-foot recruit who already looks better than him? Hmm.
I think the young man has an interesting decision to make.

Whoa, I'm not assuming anything about anything. You were wondering why he may have another year and all I did was supply an answer.

That being said regardless of everything you mentioned, all things being equal I would certainly be happy to if he is on the team next year. I WOULD assume, that most fans would want him back, unless I'm missing something.

Marquette about to upset No. 4 UConn… this is why I love college hoops, anyone can get upset on any given day!

Moving on, Redless, what do we need to happen today to beat Wake?

Honestly, I don't know a whole lot about Wake so I don't have much. What we all know about US is in most cases when Bell and Camden have productive games we usual win. They don't - and we don't. Gotta do everything we can to get them some good looks.

+1. Dort has been amazing this year - would be huge to have him back next year if possible. Not sure why anyone thinks Cal could do better nor that the incoming freshman will be better. Dort has proven he belongs in the ACC and is our best big man by far.

I know trotting out the stats can't change any minds when you're only making judgments based on emotion and how much you "like" a guy, but I'll try anyway.
Here's how Dort stacks up on important big-man stats compared to his peers.
Rebounds 98th
Blocks 278th
Points among Centers (he's not even listed as a C he's an F on ESPN): PPG - Among top 46 centers listed on ESPN (Dort is not listed as a C but an F) Dort's 8.6 is at 47th. Among all players he is No. 1379.
Assists: Not in Top 500

These are not the stats of an "amazing" player. Cal deserves a higher standard for "amazing."

He missed 7 games. That is why he is not among the national leaders. It would be an amazing accomplishment if he was.

Still, he leads Cal in offensive rebounding, defensive rebounding, total rebounding, blocks and FG%. He is far and away our best inside scorer and inside defender. He has the highest Defensive Box score on the team and the highest Win Share per 40 minutes on the team.

Sooo… even though the stats above are all per game, not totals, you're saying he would have outperformed so much in those 7 games compared to all of his other games that he would be among national leaders? Check them on ESPN yourself if you're skeptical, it's all there to be researched.
Leading his team on those stats when there's no one else available to compete with him doesn't count as excellence, it's about what can he achieve compared to other available talent.

His .613 FG% would be #20 in the nation according to the NCAA if he had enough attempts to qualify,

If he finishes that high or higher for the season with enough attempts he will be second all time for Cal behind only Mark McNamera.

That is good enough to want him back next year even if it would be great to have him come off the bench behind someone better.
barsad
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Right, .613 FG is supposed to be great for a guy who has 8.6 points per game. Are you purposely being obtuse about it, I can't tell? It means he's NOT taking enough attempts and they're all dunks or easy put-backs.

Good time out by WF coach. He is worried they may bleed out.

The color man must have seen my post. He just corrected his lead f@uck up.

Not to say I told anybody so, just wrapping up the reality - Bell and Camden were a combined 3 for 16 from the floor and 2 for 10 beyond the arc.

The Advanced Stats show Dort as our most valuable player per minute played for a reason. We are a three point shooting team. A center who can defend the paint and score efficiently off dunks, back door cuts, pick and rolls and put backs is a good fit for this team and is not as easily replaced as you assume. Of course I would like an upgrade, but if you can get your most valuable player back, even to come off the bench, why wouldn't you? If anything, his effectiveness was sometimes limited by foul trouble and our lack of depth behind him. Why wish that on our next center? Of course we want him to get another year of eligibility and come back if it is possible.
