For a team getting slaughtered on the boards, the Bears are lucky they aren't getting pasted in the paint.

We had them on the ropes and the officials let them back in, but **** rebounding has made it even worse.
Wake was dead and now they are feeling it. Huge bummer we couldn't close this out. Refs really helped keep them in it.
...just slowly plssing away the tournament. Damn.
Welp this has taken a very bad turn for the worse. Our threes need to start dropping or we are toast.

Shaq talks up Madsen as a dude who would beat him up in practice (which may not mean much given Shaq's work ethic) but to see teams mess us up and Madsen not do anything about it is getting irritating, however being stuck at 8 points halfway through the 2nd half means something else
Cal is scoreless for like 3 1/2 minutes and 1 for last 10

Pitt did the same to us, that's the playbook on us now. Gotta fight back.
Madsen's contract is looking like at least as much of a mistake as Wilcox's contract was.
Gonna need to see us play with some anger to get back in this - someone needs to step up and score a few buckets in a row.

No it's not, Cal has probably outperformed its talent level this year. The roster was not that great coming in.

That's the game. Cal's not coming back from 6 with 26.9 seconds left while being cold from behind the arc in the second half.

Over the last month we lost to a mediocre Syracuse squad, garbage Pitt, and now this lousy Wake team, and we have to play a hot Florida State team next

Can't have 10 bad minutes in the ACC and expect to win. Cal also fouled way too much in the first half. Wake attempted 19 free throws in the first half. That's how it stayed in the game. And Cal's offense in the second half lacked ball movement and too much Ames dribbling.
Also didn't like how Harris was able to get away with touching the ball after every time he scored and then staring at the refs like he was Luka. And then the whole

Madsen needs to find an assistant coach who can help him with the Xs and Os. His offense is too reliant on Ames and Pippen isolations. There's not enough ball movement, let alone off-ball movement, to free up players on offense for an open look. Bell should be taking a page out of Klay Thompson's early Warriors playbook and running through screens and hitting open 3s. Ames and Pip should be attacking and kicking more instead of focusing solely on their own shot when attacking or trying to hit long threes. Additionally, the two ball handlers should be running the pick and roll with Dort as one of the base offensive plays. Use that to set up other plays, like a dive and kick to Camden/Bell or a Dort dunk.

Totally in agreement. Too much tunnel vision from the guards, especially at their sizes. Madson has to find a way to stop the momentum once the opposition catches fire.
The failure to develop a scoring threat with three big men is a big problem. The inability of any of these guys to box out is another big one. The team plays hard. They need better coaching. I agree, need a strategist. But my god, the fundamentals failures are kind of embarrassing. This team should be in the tournament. In some ways, Madsen is why they even had a chance. I don't want him fired. I want him to improve and to get someone to help. The staff needs changes this offseason. And we need a GM. And we need some donors.

Last I checked he did have his moment, when the conventional move would to be hold the ball and let the clock run out, he went up for an uncontested dunk.

The contract extension by Knowlton was premature and fiscally irresponsible just as it was with Wilcox. The openings at Stanford and BYU, the only two schools Madsen might jump to, were already filled. It was like Knowlton extending Wilcox after he had already turned down Oregon. Wait and see if the performance warrants another extension first.
That said, I have far more hope with Madsen . When we were locked in with Wilcox we tried spending enough NIL to give him back to back top 20 transfer classes and expanded the staff to give him a bunch of senior "consultants." It would not take anything close to that in basketball. His contract is through the 2029-30 season, we have no choice but to support him and hope he gets there. We were close this year.
Exceeded expectations. Still thinking we have tired legs and that is why a ton of our 3s are hitting the front rim.
