Got home a little while ago from today's game. Thought I'd like to share a main impression with everyone:
Sometimes in basketball, a game is not decided by basketball skills, but rather by difference in athleticism. I really think that that was the case today. While VT's skills weren't neccessarily better than ours, the difference in athleticism between the two teams felt like night and day.
On both ends of the court, everything their players did seemed to be faster, stronger, and smoother. It felt like they were running circles around us while our players looked like they were moving in quicksand. Every basket we made it seemed like we had to work really hard for. When we were able to get a stop on defense, it looked like it basically took everything out of us. And of course this difference in athleticism/speed was also why we committed more turnovers.
Throw in the fact that they were 25-29 from the free throw line and there's was no was we were going to get them.
Again, VTech does not have overwhelming skill, but they are fantastic athletes and are very well coached. They deserve big time credit today.
