As you may recall we beat Virginia so I reckon we should be going to the Sweet 16 too. Also, Notre Dame is leading OSU at the half. Of course we beat Notre Dame too. We've been having a decent season considering it was somewhat of rebuilding year and we had two big injuries (Puff and Taylor) and lost a center before the season even started.

All ACC so far today.

Louisville over Alabama.
Virginia over #2 seed Iowa.
And Notre Dame is wrapping up a win over #3 seed Ohio State.

Gotta add I enjoyed watching South Carolina blow out USC 101 to 61.

Me too. Nice to see that her coaching seat is starting to get a bit hotter. 18-14 with six 5 star recruits, or their equivalent in nil, doesn't make her look good.

Another loaded class next year too. And they get Juju back

They may very well "rule" Los Angeles next season with all of UCLA's departures through graduation (L. Betts, Rice, Jaquez, Dugalic, Leger-Walker, Kneepkens)

I'm also annoyed with UCLA for their part in imploding the PAC-12. Cori Close didn't improve my attitude when she played some of her starters until the last minute of a 96 to 43 blowout of Cal Baptist.

5 teams from the ACC in the Sweet 16...Virginia, Notre Dame, Louisville, North Carolina, Duke. For comparison, SEC has 6, Big Ten has 4, Big 12 and Big East have one each. In the world of the NIL, no other conference even made it out of the first round. ACC was 13-4 the first weekend.

And 2 of the WBIT are from the ACC...Stanford and Cal. BYU and Kansas are in the Big 12, San Diego State is in the Mountain West, Columbia and Harvard are in the Ivy League, and Wisconsin is in the Big 10.

I think the Big Ten only has 3, not 4, left in the NCAA tourney? UCLA, Minnesota and Michigan. Otherwise your total adds up to 17, not 16.

Regardless, I agree with your general implication for the way college basketball is going, for both men and women as it turns out.

LG has proven herself with winning records at three different schools, and with 11 NCAA appearances in her past 13 seasons. I wish that I had appreciated her more while she was here.

LG couldn't do it without having enough talent to work with.

No question. That is where it starts. But recruiting is one thing that she has proven that she can do at three different schools.

true. except it seems like LG didn't recruit well her final years at Cal and at USC it has its own Basketball pedigree and former all star players to sell itself unlike Cal

Her last few years here, she shot high and fell short. But compared to our most recent seven years of recruiting, it was a golden era. This year we signed zero U.S. high school recruits, and obviously none in the ESPN Top 100. I still think that we need to get more out of our $8 million annual program investment and can't just keep making excuses. Let's see how big a crowd we draw tomorrow night.

LG signed McKenzie Forbes, a talented wing who was solid as a freshmen at Cal

she transferred to Harvard when LG went to USC and Charmin was still in the WNBA

She joined her twin brother who played for Harvard

Then she transferred to USC and was part of their breakout team and got national acclaim

Puff Morris (#22) and Taylor Barnes (#73) were Top 100 recruits in the 2025 class.

But no one now in 2026. Why do you think that is? 26 ESPN Top 100 players this year have signed with 9 ACC schools. So the league itself is doing well.

I don't think the ESPN Top 100 includes international players. Their school class rankings do and Cal is not in their top 25.

My guess is we don't have enough money for top prospects.

I have no idea how good our incoming players will be so I can't wait to attend the first open practice.

Once you accept that the WBIT is the best that we can do, then the WBIT is what we are going to get. The person I really miss is Sandy Barbour. She was our last AD with performance standards relative to the money she was paying out.

Gosh, I think it has slipped your mind that we got an official visit from the #1 prospect in the Class of 2027, Kaleena Smith. She's also the Gatorade Player of the Year in California.

No, you'd rather wallow in your negativity hoping to spread it to others here. Ridiculous.

Who says we are "accepting the WBIT" as the best we can do? Not me. Very disappointed that we didn't make the Tournament. Untimely injuries.

Maybe up your donations to Cal women's basketball. I certainly have.

Go Bears!! Beat Columbia!!

To improve performance, we have to succeed in four areas - high school recruiting, international recruiting, portal recruitment and player retention. High school recruiting this year was a zero. International recruiting looks promising. Now, portal and player retention will be essential.

i have no problem with your 100% cheerleading posts, except when they exclude facts and numbers and when you attack other people who do use facts and numbers.

Official visits from the very best players - like we once had from Plum and Ionescu - are great. But they have no impact unless you actually sign the players. If our coach can actually sign Kaleena Smith, I would give her another contract extension.

A visit and possible consideration from Kaleena is good and better than none- but realistically and honestly- what % likelihood or chances that she chooses Cal? 5%?
Back to earlier chat about how good LG was in recruiting- i thought I recall Juju saying she always knew she wanted to go to USC to do something special there not because of LG's recruiting of her?

Juju did likely favor going to USC. But Jazzy Davidson, another #1 player, had to be won over in recruiting, as did this year's three 2026 USC five stars. Once you get the ball rolling, it can snowball from there. So LG is essentially providing an appealing option and at the same time not getting in the way.

It is always compared to what. Would I take how LG did in recruiting for us versus what we are seeing now? Hard to argue with that.

As former Dean at Haas, Rich Lyons knows that he first has to succeed in football, including through his hiring of RR and his recent buyout of Wilcox. So he is currently focused on that. But I suspect that, longer-term, he will also want to see returns on our investments in other sports as well.

Those who have seen Kaleena Smith will understand ...

Her salary will be seven figures -- and probably won't start with a 1.

She already has an endorsement deal with Adidas as a high school player. That may also influence where she ends up in order to assure maximum tv exposure for their products. Or it may end up being a bidding war with Nike schools.
