Bears Slated For 5-Game Week - California Golden Bears Athletics

Remember former Bear Olivia Silvestre? This young lady was a highly touted recruit in 2023 but did not fare well as a freshman and left the program. She transferred to UOP and has become their best player by a wide margin.

Silvestre is the Tiger's lead-off hitter and plays CF. Olivia leads Pacific in almost every statistical category. The Tiger star possesses a .444 BA% and a .548 OB%. She has by far the most hits (48) and runs scored (30). Silvestre has registered 12 doubles and is tied for the team HR lead w/ 5. She must have good speed, too, because she leads in stolen bases with 8 in 10 attempts.

It appears that Olivia Silvestre made the right decision and has thrived in Stockton. This player must have been a "diamond in the rough"...

Looks like they need more "diamonds" with that 12-22 record to date.

Not looking good. Uop is almost a must win game if we lose to them I don't see them picking us for any regional cuz I don't think we're going to win more than 40% of our remaining games, what with Florida State ,Virginia tech, and the furds coming up.

I have us now finishing at 33-20. I think that's good enough to be selected for any regional. However, we can't have any other lapses. We've got a really tough upcoming schedule.

I believe that Lagi Quiroga got injured at SJS. Mika Lee took over the catching duties and when Quiroga should have hit in the top of the 7th, she did not. D'Auna Johnson popped up to the infield to end the 3-1 debacle loss to the Spartans.

I also was unimpressed with Miranda De Nava yesterday. She faced 15 San Jose State batters and struck out nobody. The freshman did not appear to be throwing hard and gave up 5 hits in 3 1/3 IP. De Nava had a big grin on her face when looking at one of her teammates when she was pitching to SJS's best hitter. The Spartan homered to left field on the next pitch. She had previously doubled off of Miranda.

2 home runs in the 1st inning is a good way to answer!

Butler jumped high to snag a ground ball that took a funky bounce-looks like she landed poorly. I couldn't tell if it was ankle, her full leg on the land, knee. Marshall is in for her. Hope it isn't serious.

Thanks for update, I got home and tuned in to watch just as play was about to begin right after the injury. Problem was I never got to see it and missed any description so my mind was racing, well, and still is I just hope she is ok.

She was walking around after the game and didn't appear in pain. A good sign!

Cal looked motivated today as compared to yesterday. Three of the next four ACC opponents are at or near the top of the conference. The Bears need to play their best to win those series: Florida State, @ Stanford & Virginia Tech. The final series of the season will be in New York to face Syracuse. GO BEARS!

I had not noticed Mia Phillips contributing to the Cal offense much so I did some homework. Beginning with the Clemson series, the freshman has gone 1-18 in the last six games. It was a single. Clemson completely shut her out during their three-game sweep.

Prior to those six games, the frosh from Hollister might have been the most productive offensive player on the team. Everyone goes through slumps. GO BEARS!

Elon Butler makes some dumb plays. She wasn't ready for a force out at third base and did not register the out. It cost the Bears a second run in the second inning vs Florida State. Butler somehow did not get charged with an error.

The coaching staff didn't appreciate the mental error either and replaced her at 3B w/ Nailyn Marshall. She was moved to DH.

Pitcher Teperson makes a throwing error in the T3rd to allow an unearned run to make it 3-0 Seminoles.

Cal hitters have hit some balls hard but the difference between the #9 team in the nation's defense and the Bears is night & day.

Cal was more competitive against the top Pac 9 teams than the top ACC schools. Florida State scored more than a run per inning. I almost turned it off because how one-sided the game was. I hope that this is not another sweep. Did anyone notice that the second Seminole pitcher was a transfer from Auburn?

Cal slaughtered again at home, 11-3. The Florida State defense is the best that I have seen this season. The depth of their pitching staff is probably the best that the Bears have faced, too. None of the Cal pitchers can hold down strong teams like the Seminoles. Miranda De Nava yielded two more home runs this afternoon. She failed to strike out a batter, again, today.

Florida State finished with a flourish by battering the Bears, 16-3, in 5 frames to complete the weekend sweep.
