ESPN has the Stanford Cal matchup on On Demand.
I have watched enough and at top of 4 where we are the visiting team
Our team ia making the Stanford pitcher look like an ace.
9 SO for 12 batters.
Our team looks like a high school team against a college team.
They are getting every bounce and we look like nothing is going for us.
Having said this, I am watching without judgement. I knew our team was not going to look good. (just not this bad).
Only way to go is up for us. Tamya Waiters look pretty good. I didnt know what to expect from her but a pleasant suprise. ( beauty speed and off speed pitch)
Let's see how we jell together and what the team looks like at middle of the season and how we end.

S71, i think playing alongside stanford makes a lot of teams including OkSt look a little slow on their defensive playmaking. Stanford showed well over the weekend. Kern is a baller.

Mya facing the same team that figured her out the day before and then shutting them out across 7 innings was very encouraging. The coaches and pitchers need to continue to figure out what works.

Im hoping the hitting improves in its consistency. While the team seems to have power, they do seem to like the riseballs a bit too much. It felt like they were trying force their hitting vs letting it come to them.

The games vs Santa Clara will be available this weekend for their Silicon Valley Classic (with the ESPN subscription package)

https://santaclarabroncos.com/sports/2023/6/20/tournament%20sb.aspx

Cal softball will look to turn things around this weekend with the Silicon Valley Classic in Santa Clara, CA, where the Golden Bears are set to take on a familiar face to start the tournament. The Bears' first game will be against Cal alum and former pitcher Anna Reimers and Utah on Friday. Cal will then face Santa Clara the same day, followed by UC Santa Barbara, Santa Clara (again), and Illinois State on Saturday and Sunday.

Hard to tell with some of these early season games/schedules.

I'd assume Utah might be toughest matchup. Don't have to face UW

Another one-sided affair with the Utes comfortably holding onto 7-2 lead after five innings.

Pretty tuff when you have little pitching and not much hitting. We may win less games then the FB team won.

Here at Santa Clara typing with freezing hands. Cal's just taken the lead in the 7th on a bases loaded double by Togia. Still no outs. 5-2

6-2 on a double steal/error. Probably feeling good if your Mya McGowan. She's thrown a solid game so far. We had a few errors (as far as I'm concerned) labeled as hits against her.

I watched the last couple of innings and witnessed a nice comeback. Mya McGowan has pitched both Cal victories (2-5), Bear's offense collected five doubles tonight. Cal faces my alma-mater, UCSB, tomorrow,
go gauchos! GO BEARS!

By the way buddy. I just blocked you-so I don't see anything you post anymore.

No point in engaging or messaging me. Please seek the mental help you so severely need. Im not religious but in this case, I definitely am praying for the less fortunate!

UCSB (2-7) vs Cal (2-5) game is deadlocked 1-1 after one inning. Both teams have their best pitchers, both freshmen, on the mound. The Gauchos have Sophie Clark (2.80 ERA) working while the Bears are going w/ Mya McGowan.

Heading toward the B3rd, Cal has scored in each inning and has jumped out to a 4-1 lead. The hottest hitter right now appears to be junior RF, Carly Raven. In her last three ABs, she has two doubles and a two-out RBI single to CF.

Feels like that 7th inning yesterday was a real turning point.

Through the first six games of the season, we hadn't really been able to string together hits or capitalize on miscues....but that finally seems to be changing. 4-1 Cal on another Raven hit.

I'll be back tonight for Game 2 against Santa Clara. Excited to see a new pitcher in action.

Interesting. Just as I say that we bring in a new pitcher (Peacock). So maybe McGowan will get the start against later against Santa Clara.

New time around the lineup, new pitcher.

RHP Taylor Peacock was fortunate, yielding four singles and a walk for only a single run. Two UCSB runners were thrown out on the bases.

Bears answer quickly in the T4th with singles by Emma Jackson and Kayli Counts followed by a three run HR by senior D'Auna Johnson. It was her first hit of the 2026 season: Cal 7, UCSB 2.
D'Auna Johnson - Softball - California Golden Bears Athletics

Cal is now 3-5 with 9-4 thrashing of UCSB. Bears play the Broncos, again, at 2pm on ESPN+.

It looks like our top hitters are the holdovers from last year's team. I'm not saying the transfers aren't performing some got off the slow starts but they're starting to hit

McGowan's going to get a lot of work this year.
I was a little worried this team would be similar to the furds 15,16,17 teams. They were 49-104 &
4-68 in P12. Our HC is world's better than Rochelle Hanson.

While I agree, I'll also point out that the rest of our schedule is… insane. It would've been tough even for last year's team. We've got Oklahoma, Auburn, Florida, Nebraska, and a Fullerton squad that's already beaten Kentucky and Ole Miss. The record this year may end up looking more like one of Hanson's early teams, but the foundation is clearly being laid for future success.

Go Bears!

SCU frosh pitcher, Schroeder, throws complete game to defeat Cal, 8-4. The young lady from Sacramento struck out nine Bears. The announcer stated that Cal was 88-0 against Santa Clara and that today was their 1st victory.

It looks as if the third time through the batting order, the opposing hitters know exactly what Mya McGowan will throw. Illinois State rallied for four runs on four hits, all of them to RF. All three outs were fly balls to RF, too, during the B5th.

Illinois State is going for their fifth consecutive victory this weekend. They are hot.

Cal needs to fight back in the top of the 6th. Bears did strike back with 2 runs on three hits plus 2 errors by Illinois State. Cal needs to clean up their base running. The initial two outs of the sixth inning were on the base paths, again. Bears should only have a single out but have regained the lead 6-4.

McGowan relieved after two outs and two on in the B6th. Mya walked two batters in the last two innings. Can the bullpen hold for 1 1/3 innings? Maybe-the blue & gold put up two more runs in the T7th on two hits and two walks.
Relief pitchers need to throw strikes now with a four-run cushion. Soph Kiki Mashhound did the job and retired 4 out of 5 batters that she faced for the save.

Cal (4-6) has begun to figure out how to win games with their personnel. They are manufacturing runs and playing solid defense. The Bears captured 3 out of 5 this weekend. Here's the magic formula: 8-2 over SCU, 9-4 over UCSB & 8-4 over Illinois St. GO BEARS!

I like that we immediately answered back after losing the lead. That's what you want to see with a young squad.

Next week is going to be tough. Cal plays TH-Sunday. It's such a fun tournament…one I've went to many times. I remember watching Val down there her Freshman year thinking oh yeah, this kid is going to be great. Good memories.

Safe travels down south, Bears.
