As a big fan of Cal softball especially in the late 80's, 90's and 2000's I used to love riding my bicycle in to Btown to watch games. Nelson would become one of my all time favorite Bears. Not just because of stellar capabilities on the field, but also because she seemed to beautifully embody an amazing Cal student athlete. I also loved that she became so feared that opposing coaches would walk her in the craziest of scenarios. Roni's demeanor aways struck me as being so composed. Rather than being angry at being walked soooo much, she carried a calm intellect and never seemed to get too ruffled by it all. She was such an important piece of our National Championship team 2002.
Fast forward, I have a suspicion that she might have posted here and if she does, I hope she sees this and knows that she is so loved here. While she is locked in to a great career path, I can only imagine that she would have made an awesome GM for Cal Softball. I can dream can't I? lol
Turns out she is the Judge in the 482nd District of Harris County, Texas and won her primary race in March and will now be in the final running in the fall. Honestly, this seems perfect. My respect has grown even more. I love her bio on her election page (linked below).
Go get em Roni and Go Bears!
