January 6 was the biggest security failure since 9/11.

In all the aftermath I've yet to see any explanation of why the Capitol wasn't fortified, other than the tribal memes- so and so didn't call the National Guard. Likely, it was an institutional bipartisan failure like all of DC. It's fortunate the trespassers were so incompetent

This. Though i also fess up that i havent read the reports or books cover to cover not understand why certain tactical decisions were or were not made. I do believe that if had been the black panthers rathet than the proud boys live rounds would have been fired.

Perhaps, but I heard one of the policeman say that the only reason he didn't start shooting (which he had the legal right to do reasonably fearing serious bodily harm) was because they were so out numbered that he felt that for sure the rabble would have killed him had he started shooting.

I'd really like to know what points of failure you allude to. Like, what would you think they should have done differently?

Respecting that you don't like long AI pastes, I'll just say that I asked ChatGPT two questions to help me think:

1. How many security officers were present at Capitol on Jan 6, vs any other normal day?

2. ChatGPT offered: How many police officers the Capitol complex actually has compared to other major government buildings (like the White House or the Pentagon). The comparison is surprising.

Also aiding me is the fact that I used to work for a senate committee as a messenger, 8 months post college, so I know the entire grounds, and used to have to pass through said security daily.

So, again, understanding the grounds and the norms, what would you have done differently and why? What would have caused you to act differently than on other days?

Maybe for the same reason I intentionally leave out the word "accidentally" in referring to Draymond kicking Steven Adams in the crotch, hitting LeBron James in the balls, and kicking defenders with a forward movement of his legs during his jump shots. Draymond always does the "dirty work" in ambiguous fashion for quasi plausible deniability.

Also maybe because Trump did nothing to effectively make the rabble stand down after they started rioting and because, in any event, Trump wholly ratified their conduct when he blanket pardoned all of the convicted January 6 felons, regardless of how vicious their attacks on the police were.

Many of those lads are very lucky that there was inadequate security at the Capitol on January 6, otherwise dozens upon dozens of those pardons would have been posthumously granted.

*My grandfather was OPD. I don't take kindly to pond scum assaulting police that are legally performing their duties.
