Exercise some self control. If you disagree with what someone says, give a level-headed response. Quit making it personal and petty and grow up. If someone makes their point in a snarky way you don't like, you can take issue with it. Just don't result to silly personal insults.

IMDb pulled the plug on its comment boards years ago. It broke my heart.

I was a commenter on the Reddit pit bull, knife and gun community forums but alas, those lads were just too high strung and they all banned me life. I was just funin'em.

Daily Mail banned me for life during Trump I for posting the same comments critical of Trump I post here.

Personally, I've taken a step back from this forum and had the discipline to limit myself to roughly 10 posts a day. That, and using the IGNORE feature has worked for me.

I've done this largely because I've seen people post 40 - 50x a day posting nothing but screenshots of worthless tweets and memes ... not too mention stalking people here at all hours.

Many of these people clearly have no affiliation with CAL and are not interested in participating in an honest organic discussion. But they "live" here.

The threat of closing this forum is a non-starter.
The owner receives far too many web-hits which he can then promote to advertisers.

I knew this thread would degenerate into fighting like little children.

Insulting the ownership of a free forum after lots of warnings is not a good idea.

Suggestion (and easy for me to wave the magic coding wand) but the ignore feature would be more powerful (and thus, perhaps, some self regulating) if when you ignore you ENTIRELEY disappear that post. Right now ignore shows you that someome chimed in on the thread. I BELIEVE it shows you even that they responded to you. It is human nature to check that out. Essentially you are collapsing their post.

But if ignore really did mean essentially removed from your feed it would be actually a true ignore and MIGHT actually regulate people. The worst non-contributors that didn't regulate would find themselves talking a a very empty room. They still would get their rocks off, I guess, by pounding out a post. Just fewer would actually hear them or even know they were talking.
