Lmao this is a very funny post. Please name anything factual that he has done to make California better. Not feelings, facts.

I'd love to see Gavin Newsom become our 48th President!

For anybody looking for facts over feelings, I would say any of his environmental policies, compared to those of Trump.

Crime rates are way down throughout the state. Education is supported here.

We actually have clean water, some of these 3rd world red states have unsafe standards and no water/plumbing at all. No thanks

You night want to tell Mark Kelly to F-offf. Listen to Money Bombs comments among others: "Gavin has a brain the size of a walnut." Gets rather personal. Sounds like Kelly is running against Newsom in the next Presidential race.

Education is in an absolute **** hole in California. Yeah now I know you have no idea what you're talking about and you just have your knee pads on for Gavin

I beg to differ. Having taught at three public high schools for almost twenty years (all in the Bay Area with diverse student populations), I would say the education provided ranged from "pretty good", to "very good". My two kids are in the 8th and 11th grade at a public school and I would say their education has been good-to-very-good.

No doubt there are poor-to-mediocre things going on somewhere in California education, but it has not been my experience.

48.8% of students in California meet the state standard in ELA.

37.3% of students in California meet the state standard in Math.

Is that your standard of "pretty good" to "very good"?

To be clear, this isn't an admonishment of teachers. As a teacher myself, we do the best we can with the resources we have but the system is broken in so many ways.

Just looking at those two statistics, without further study, I would have to say, no, that is not good, obviously.

But I was basing my evaluation instead on my own anecdotal evidence, amassed over time and at several different school sites in three different school districts. I trust my judgement of what I saw, especially based over decades, in different locations.

If you had the power, what would you do to improve public education in California?

That's fair and I appreciate your insight as a former teacher. I've been very luckily to have only worked in high performing schools in high performing areas as well. That being said, the emphasis on education from parents has diminished drastically during my time teaching. Students aren't disciplined or taught how to behave, both by parents and by administrators not holding kids and families accountable. Society as a whole struggles to have more than 15 minute attention spans and that is reflected in my students. Their ability to work hard has dipped, their ability to reason and problem solve has dipped. Even in an independent school, the focus is on money and behavior issues.

I don't have a solution, sadly. I think teachers should obviously be paid more, attracting more teachers to the field. I think administrators should be paid less and be held accountable for poor performance of their schools. I think parents need to focus more on their child's education and not on how to make them instagram famous.

What are your thoughts on how to make things better? I don't know how long you have been out of teaching but over the last 5 years, I have spent more time with behavior issues than I did in the previous 20 years combined.

I pretty much agree with all of that. It's hard to judge the job that schools are doing without taking into account family life and the extent (or lack thereof) to which society values education.

I switched from high school teacher to stay-at-home dad just before the pandemic.

I fully agree, good education starts at home and without that the rest can feel much less impactful.

Ah, you got out at the right time! It's certainly been a noticeable shift post pandemic. I don't blame it all on the pandemic but it definitely played its part.

How lucky your children are to get to have you full time, kudos to you for being able to do that for them and for yourself.

Speaking of "heroic leader" I will leave this right here.

Never mind that he was married at the time.
Never mind that his wife was pregnant with their son Baron at the time.
Never mind that he paid $130,000 to Daniels as hush money to buy her silence during his 2016 campaign.

This is the "hero" that avoided the Vietnam draft with 5 deferments.
This is the "hero" that called POW John McCain a loser.

Rosa Parks was heroic.
Caesar Chavez was heroic.
Harriet Tubman was heroic.
Susan B Anthony was heroic.
Martin Luther King was heroic.

Donald Trump doesn't have a heroic bone in his body.
Donald Trump has been a FRAUD since the day that he was born.
