Some folks are just sick of exaggerating demented loser morons who make false arguments because they are miserable in their sad lives. This conversation has been largely about the gross of the Melania movie which a bunch of useful idiots claimed would bomb as nobody would see it. This was proven 100% false as this documentary just had / is one pace for the highest grossing opening weekend in the last decade.

Again, try to be truthful when posting. Don't be a dishonest liar loser. Nobody here has ruled out that Bezos paid extra for Melania to curry favor with Trump. Nobody.

Yep. Well said.

Hmmm… MELANIA isn't playing around here. I guess I'll watch this instead.

Jokes aside, this really is disturbing:

People in this county really need to get a life (I'm assuming Big C's wife forced him to watch).
I'm reminded of the SNL "Professional Clapper" narrative.

In most cases, First Lady isn't a job, it is a circumstance. While a few First Lady's have had some nice causes, it really doesn't deserve a couple hours of your day, espicalliy about such a low profile First Lady.

"Top-grossing theaters were conservative-leaning states including Texas, Florida, including West Palm Beach, not far from Mar-a-Lago, Louisiana, Georgia, Arizona, Tennessee, Alabama, Oklahoma, Ohio and Nevada," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Audiences were overwhelmingly 55 and older (72% of ticket buyers), female (72%) and white (75%)."
Axios

*Just a wild hunch: Prime Video will announce in a few months that it generated the most streaming revenue in the history of documentaries streamed on the platform.

I don't know if the UC Theater on University Ave still exists, but I could imagine "Melania" becoming an every-Saturday-night-at-midnight favorite among the Berkeley student community: People dressing up in costume, audience participation, toast, the works. A 21st century Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Since Melania was such a hit, a sequel already is in the works.

The UC closed in 2001. By 2023, the Pandemic killed off every movie house in downtown Berkeley.

Berkeley is where I saw all my movies from 1970 (when I got my drivers license) to 1982 (when I moved out of Berkeley). In 1970 I remember seeing movies like Woodstock, Five Easy Pieces, MASH, Little Big Man, Zabriskie Point, The Adventurers, Catch-22, Let it Be, The Great White Hope, Little Fauss and Big Halsey, Ryan's Daughter, and Brewster McCloud.

AI Overview of funniest movie review quotes:

The Guardian: Described the film as "a gilded trash remake of The Zone of Interest in which a button-eyed Cinderella points at gold baubles... while her husband and his cronies prepare to dismantle the Constitution".

The New York Times: Remarked that the documentary "tiptoes around the doom in kitten heels".

Variety: "If this film was shown on a plane, people would still walk out".

IndieWire: (In a widely circulated viral meme/fake quote) "If syphilis were a movie!".

The Toronto Star: "Melania is as compelling as dental floss" and has "the depth of a pothole puddle".

The Daily Beast: Labeled it an "unbelievable abomination of filmmaking" and joked about needing "I Survived the Melania Movie" novelty t-shirts.

Audience & Social Media Takedowns

The "Lego" Comparison: "Watching Melania's journey... is like walking barefoot in a field of Lego while you have explosive diarrhea".

The "Empty" Aesthetic: One viewer noted, "I'd rather lay in my bed staring at the ceiling than watch a movie where Melania debates picking an outfit".

The "Invisible" Documentary: Many pointed out the film's lack of substance, with The Decider noting it "misfires by mistaking the first lady's fame for star quality" and consists mostly of "just a bunch of footage".

RHPS had great music, was funny, was different from almost anything else out there, was in some ways inspiring, did some before-its-time mainstream gender-bending stuff... and had a cult following (but anyone was welcome to join the cult, just show up at midnight).

Best of all, it seemed to go really well with whatever your drug-of-choice happened to be!

For "Melania" to become something like that, students would have to really be able to ratchet up the irony, but I'm sure there are some spots that are just rife for audience participation.

I was relatively tame for my era and it was limited to a 4 year window so I would not mess up in school:

marijuana, hashish, hash oil and opium laced pot (I was unaware the pot had been spiked. It was at an Allman Brothers concert in Oakland in 1973 and it was an unpleasant experience). I never dropped a pill or snorted anything figuring if it was adulterated I'd be f'd.

"Bulk sales of the new documentary Melania: Twenty Days to History are being promoted through emails from the National Faith Advisory Board (NFAB), a faith coalition led by Paula White-Cain, who also served as a senior advisor in the White House Faith Office. The film had a $7 million opening weekend…….

In other words, while the theater buyouts count as box-office sales, it is not clear how many of those seats are actually filled with attendees. It also is not clear if this group sales process is being used to inflate box office numbers for the Melania movie. It raises questions.

White House advisor Paula White-
Concerning the promotion of the group sales by a person at the White House, the overlap of a roles raises ethical and transparency questions. White-Cain is both a Trump administration appointee and the leader of a group affiliated with the Trump campaign, prompting concerns about whether a federally connected figure is promoting a commercial project tied to the First Lady.

Also, without independent data on attendance versus purchased seats, the reported sales of the film are suspect, as they may reflect coordinated bulk buying more than actual audience interest."
