I'd like to know, that would be another trip for me
I haven't been in Jersey since my first tour in NYC back in the early 90's.
When I interviewed with my first boss (Victor Sperandeo) I flew out to NJ and spent time with one of my best buddies from Cal, who was a bio-chem major from Cornell and lived in Essex Fells, NJ.
He was born in Basil, Switzerland the son of a chemist and a dentist.
Dude was like a brother to me during my final year at Cal.
George came out to CAL for one year because he wanted to be closer to his GF who was on the swim team at UOP. We lived at the same house on the corner of Channing and Piedmont, across from the A-Di-Pi house and next door to the Chi Omega sorority. Dude drove a beautiful blue 912 Porsche from the 70s and was an excellent skier.
His Dad had become the Chairman of Sandoz, the Swiss Pharma Company.
He had actually synthesized LSD with Hoffman, of Hoffman-LaRoche.
In any event, while I was staying with George during that Summer of 1983, his Dad was sequestered in the back of their home undergoing treatment for a very aggressive stomach cancer. He died just 3-months later.
His son George went on to become a noted orthopedic spine surgeon in Denver.
Got his medical training at Georgetown and did his residency at St. Luke's in Chicago.
In 2012, he was selected as one of the most influential and important American spine surgeons in the Beckers list of 207 Spine Surgeons and Specialists to Know.
The people you meet at CAL.
Cults don't end well. They really don't.
