China is rapidly replacing its vehicle fleet with EVs, its demand for oil is already peaking.

It's the economies of India, S Korea, japan and W Europe that are vulnerable to oil supply shocks in the medium term.

Notice Spain in that solar power graph, it is the only W European country that isn't deindustrializing, setting itself to become a future auto production hub in the EU while Germany sputters.

US shale oil production is set to start declining next decade, at which point Canada would pick up the slack, if we're nice to them.

This is bogus information.
This thread should be deleted.

The U.S. does NOT PRODUCE more oil than Saudi Arabia and Russia combined. Not even close.

Russia: 9.3 mbpd

Saudi Arabia: 10.1 mbpd

United States: 13.6 mbpd

Do the Math.

And yet China is still expanding its refineries, even with EV growth

13.6 < 19.4

You're welcome.

I'm assuming this includes our new found friend's supply in Venezuela but I'm not sure

Wrong.
Venezuela only produces 800,000 - 900,000 bpd.

Has nothing to do with supply.
The topic is oil PRODUCTION.

Peak production in the 1990's was 3.0 mbpd for Venezuela

Appreciate the info

From my quick research, it looks like the original graph is talking about total liquids production (including petroleum) and not just crude oil. Misleading for sure

How is a global conflict with a rising power with nukes good for us?

China is a rival but it also is a rival whose political survival (the CCP) depends directly on global trade and frankly a stable world order. This relationships has always felt like one to manage rather than come into direct conflict (see british policy toward the United states during the second half of the 19th century).

Or put another way - please spin out a scenario in which a country with a huge balance of trade surplus (and a huge amount of US debt) and who holds onto power through elite cooption (all those Chines Bougiees buying Gucchi in Hong Kong) benefit if trade tanks and global markets get shut off. And if you believe that they will peacefully and without crisis go willingingly into that good night you have misread 500 years of chinese history of internal revolts.

Take care of your Chicken

good luck with that, seriously. default condition of the internet/board is out of control, always pushing whatever limits exist. not management's fault imo, just the nature of anon bbs "culture"
