Early reviews are coming in from Cal’s first ever Premier Day recruiting event yesterday and so far, the visits were a hit.

Here’s a sampling of some of the recruits’ thoughts on their visits.

6-5/215 Brophy Prep (Phoenix, AZ) ATH Jaylen Fitzgerald - The Phoenix ATH holds early offers from Cal, Arizona, Kansas, UNLV and more. He was back at Cal after visiting last season for a game.

“The trip was amazing!” Fitzgerald said. “I finally got to see everything -the facilities, the campus, and just what it means to be a Bear. Everything was awesome and there isn’t really a red flag about Cal.

“The new coaching staff is very determined to change the culture and win a lot of games, and I would love to be a part of it. I can see myself fitting in perfectly with their system, and they’re definitely one of my top choices.”

6-5/245 3 star Grant Union OL Giovanni Hodge‍ - The recent Cal commit was back for another visit to his future home this weekend along with his 6-4/270 frosh DT brother Amar’e.

“My trip back to Cal was good,” Hodge said. “The vibe with the players and staff is great. There’s a pretty good chance of my brother playing with me at Cal.”

6-2/190 Lincoln (Tacoma, WA) High School 4 star QB Sione Kaho - Rated the #15 QB in the country with a big list of offers, pulling Kaho would be a big move for the Bears in their 2027 recruiting class.

“The visit was great!” Kaho said. “The vibe was different for sure, the atmosphere & the energy throughout the whole coaching staff was something I wasn’t expecting. I actually got the time to chop it up Jaron & just talk about everything. What stood out was the amount of recruits that were there.

“After this great visit, Cal is definitely up there in my recruitment.”

6-6/330 Cardinal Newman (Santa Rosa, CA) High School 3 star OT Josh Bunni - The big Aussie transplant across the bay has early offers from UW, Utah, SMU, ASU and more even though he’s a former rugby player who’s yet to play football.

“Honestly just the coaches were really amazing the way they handled the premiere day was awesome and really liked it,” Bunni said.

6-4/280 Servite (Anaheim, CA) High School 4 star IOL Elisha Mueller‍ - The 4 star soph has a huge impressive early offer list of Alabama, Ohio State, LSU, Texas A&M, Oregon and more.

“I loved it,” Mueller said. “They have a lot of history and tradition behind the program and I love what coach tosh and the new staff is doing over at Cal.”

6-2/190 4 star Serra High School safety Malachi Taufoou - The local top prospect will be making a visit back to Berkeley three weeks after his last visit to Cal. As a junior, he had 50 total tackles (45 solo), 4 INT and 6 TFL on defense and 7 TDs and 1 TD pass on offense for Serra.

“It was a great trip to Cal,” Taufoou said. “I didn’t stay the whole time. I went and met with the coaches and left just cause I had already done the junior day tour and stuff and they wanna save stuff for my official visit. Cal is still high definitely on my list.”

2028 Visitors

6-2/165 3 star Simi Valley High School CB Micah Hannah‍ - The #11 rated 2028 CB in the nation already has offers from USC, Miami, Texas A&M and more and will join the mostly 2027 list of visitors this weekend.

“My visit to Cal felt great,” Hanna said. “Me and my family loved it and very much felt it was worth the drive. The vibe felt very comfortable and home-like. All of the coaches were welcoming and brought great energy along with a strong mindset on what the future program will be like.

“What stood out to me personally was how much the staff tried to build a connection. Almost every coach or assistant I walked past spoke to me and tried to make conversation. For me currently Cal stands towards the top 100%.  I loved everything and am looking forward to more.”

6-6/295 De La Salle 3 star OT Clint Lundin - The Spartans junior has early offers from Cal, ASU, Northwestern, SDSU and more.

“This was my second time heading up to Cal and I was very impressed again with all they have to say about the program and where they plan on taking things this year,” Lundin said. “I love the emphasis on changing the culture that Tosh Lupoi laid out and I also love the fact that they plan on recruiting high schoolers rather than getting a bunch of players from the portal after this first year. Coach Lupoi actually graduated from my high school so I feel as if the traditions he is instilling at Cal are very similar to the traditions we have at De La Salle, which I love.”

6-5/200 3 star Westlake WR/TE Charles Davis - The younger brother of recent Cal commit and signee ATH Niles Davis‍ has an impressive list of offers with Michigan, Oregon, USC, Oklahoma and more.

“My vibe with the coaches was amazing,” Davis said. “Glad to have the time to speak with them and it was also nice to see my brother, Niles Davis‍, who recently enrolled at Cal for football.

“One thing that stood out to me was definitely how passionate Coach Lupoi and Coach Steve were about having me at the school.”

6-2/230 Servite (Anaheim, CA) edge Sevelino Taliauli - The Anaheim junior had 40 tackles, 6.5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles and 1 fumble recovery. He has early offers from Nevada and San Jose State.

“My visit was fun,” Taliauli said. “I got to see what goes on in the campus and see why they do to help you become the best athlete possible. I really loved my visit and would love to go to Ca!. They have something going on most people can see and it will become big.”
