I have been musing about what I think we should expect if tosh is to be The kind of coach that we all hope he will be

I did an AI search And it indicates that the blue blood teams have a win rate of about 80%That would imply Every year being between 9 wins and 3 losses and 10 wins and 2 losses Add winning 8 of 10 bowl game

Well this is a pretty high standard I know that while I would prefer perfect records every year that ain't reasonable So I think if we can get to an average Of 9 wins and 3 losses per year and Win 3 of every 4 bowl games that would be very satisfactory

Now if I could only stay alive for another 5 years to see if that happens that is my challenge Along with my current challenge of being able to walk from my bedroom to the bathroom at night without a walker

As you get older your challenges change when I turned 40 my goal was to run the San Francisco and Oakland marathons Now as you can see it's just getting to the toilet

I sympathize with you Oakbear. In days gone by I would look forward to Cal football 2-5 years in the future .

But no more.
Now my horizon is 9-10 months in the future.

This year I purchased my Cal football season tix with the hope I would make it through the entire season and postseason.

But life comes with no guarantees just a lot of hope and prayers.

Oakbear, I am probably a bit younger than you, but I hear ya. I ran long distance for 42 years, completed 50 marathons. Ran the San Francisco marathon every year from 1984-1999, with the exception of 1988, when it was not held. 3 years ago, had to give it up altogether. Basically, I wore my body out. I can still walk a 5k on any given day, but it is not the same, and it is amazing how simple an activity used to be 5-10 years ago is now not even possible. (I am now 66).
Hang in there brother, and I think the previous poster (smh) is correct, eat dessert first.

I'm 66. For some the physical drop-off is staggering. I'm fighting it. I haven't been a runner and I probably haven't been in the kind of great shape you were. Running is tough. My BIL is a bit younger and has been a lifelong runner. He's still hanging in there but I noticed last time I was with him his running gait was a lot different. Keep moving and do what you can.

Don't let the old man in.

Now, sometimes the old man barges through the door, but asap usher him out again, physically if necessary.

Easier said than done.

I am 80 years old
From the time I was in my twenties until I was 70, I would jog 5 miles a day 5 days a week throughout the Oakland hills. Early on I had some good 5-mile times.
Then the old man came a knocking when my knees gave out.

So I hit the elipticals and fixed weights at 24 hour Fitness hard

Then 4 years ago the old man came barging back in.
This time he brought along a friend The Big C. (I don't mean that structure on the hill above campus.)

I fought back and was winning until recently

I am still fighting but I know now it's a losing game. (Think of the US troops on Bataan and Corregidor at the beginning of WWII)
I will keep fighting but we all know how this will end.

The ancient Greeks had an explanation of Fate. It goes something like this. "You can never escape your Fate. Fate is like an old woman with a limp who is chasing you. You can out run her for a while. But she never sleeps or stops to eat."

I am also a '68 grad. I have many miles on me, not all of them good. I seriously considered not renewing my season FB tickets but Tosh, JKS, great portal class etc. have pulled me back in. We are threatening to be really good this year and I don't want to miss it. I will climb that hill to Memorial Stadium again God willing.

I Too am not looking forward to that long uphill climb from my parking place near the two football players statue to the top of the East side of CMS.
I will finally break down and hail a golf cart for that ride. I am expecting a fun season

So far, I win the old man award, class of 1960, 88 by fb season. I live in Colorado Springs and made it to a game last year. I plan to trek again this year. I'm pretty flexible if any have Stadium Clu tkts available, I'll pay a reasonable amount for 2 or 3 tkts for one or two games. Field Club ok too. Not too many travel years left and I really am stoked on the higher qu ality of the players this year. If the coaches can deliver, this could be a great year. I went to our last Rose Bowl and would welcome another similar opportunity

I am 48 years old and breaking down. I've had 21 surgeries (mostly from basketball) and there are days it's tough to get out of bed. I don't move around particularly well, & I haven't been able to hoop in 13 or so years and I'll probably never run or jump again.

I have told people I think I may have gone to the more Cal games (in person) than anyone else in the world…I'm happy to hear from y'all I probably haven't.

Cal football is the THING that matters most to me in life. I am so inspired by all of you Old Blues and what I read here. I occasionally lose hope in our Bears, but I can look at all of y'all and you understand.

Cheers & thank you for reminding me we all can keep fighting.

Go Bears! I'll see y'all September!
