Meghin Williams shared yesterday that the tall incoming Greek player is extremely raw, and might even be redshirted, and the player is on board with that or having extremely limited minutes.

She is high on Zara and Ruby, the Australian duo. Ruby is a point guard with a different skill set from the curret PGs, and Zara is a 4.

The 6'5" Serbian player is getting some great playing experience playing against current and recently former WNBA players in the Euro Cup, but would need continued mentorship and skill development (my words, not hers).

The current roster for 2025-26 has 13 players. There are 4 incoming Freshman and 2 Graduating players, with the goal of getting at least 1 5 player and a player who can "own the end of games" (paraphrase) in the portal. Or perhaps 2 5's. Cal anticipates a 15 player roster, but can go over that with certain considerations. But if the math is 13 (current) minus 2 plus 4 freshman plus 2 portal = 17, sounds like they are expecting 2 portal departures, perhaps more portal action if there are more departures. She said that Charmin would never "cut anyone" who wanted to return. Sofia Bowes, as a walk on, falls into a slightly different category for roster management, but I'm not exactly clear what Meghin meant by that.

Any worry about a Lulu transfer?

She was cautious to phrase things so that we understood nothing is solid about anyone until the end of the portal window.

She also said (and perhaps this should be on a different thread) that even though Cal was hoping for the NCAA tournament (this was before the game) that they had submitted a bid to host a WBIT game, and, if successful in being granted a home game, that game would probably happen sometime the week of March 16. Selection Sunday for all tournaments is Sunday, March 15.

I found 3 players in the top Turkish league who are around 6' 5" and 20 or younger but all are Turkish:
Berfin Sahin
Ayse Demirer
Aleyna Tokgoz

I also discovered former Cal player Mikayla Cowling has played in Turkey so she might be our connection.

i needed a reminder of her particulars, snipped below, and of course [a very late] Welcome!

Williams joined the Golden Bears after spending the 2024-25 season as an assistant athletics director, chief of staff for Virginia Tech women's basketball. At Cal, her responsibilities include, but are not limited to, managing revenue-sharing initiatives, NIL partnerships, driving revenue growth, roster-building strategies and overall program operations.. .. ..

Is there an article on the 6-5 Serbian recruit? This is news to my ears. It sounds as if the two bigs (6-3 Greek & 6-5 Serbian are not ready to contribute much). The players that have had impact have been college players from the transfer portal. Charmin was bringing in four for two years and only three last season. The high school players have not had major impact since Lulu Twidale & Jada Curry. Taylor Barnes has been a nice player, but Puff Morris has not lived up to her hype as "the player of the year in the state of California". The other problem has been players transferring out with eligibility remaining (like Curry & Marta Suarez).

I would agree that Cal must bring in one or two*** bigs*** from the transfer portal to replace the two senior graduating post players. The team should have a plethora of guards next year (if they stay).

GO BEARS!

No article. Don't you think if there was one it would have been posted here at some point? Sorry Charmin or Meghin didn't consult you ahead of time.

We've been talking about her for at least a month. She'll sign in April. She's currently playing against WNBA players in Turkey. Good grief. Not ready to contribute much as a freshman??

You have no clue about Taylor or Puff.

You put your own spin on what has already been discussed. Or just repeat and find fault with the recruiting strategy. I think Mjracle and Sakima have worked out quite nicely from the portal.

Rant over.
Go Bears!!

If we don't use maximum resources to bring back Lulu and Gisella next year, as a fan I will be ENORMOUSLY DISAPPOINTED.

That's why Cal WBB has a General Manager.

She's got this.

Plus, I think Lulu would be excited to play alongside two Aussies. Gisella is the "Comeback Player of the Year"!

Marta moved on to get maximum NIL and tv exposure.

Marta is now listed by ESPN as an expected first round pick in this year's WNBA draft.

TCU also had enough money to bring in top-rated Olivia Miles. So higher bidders will be out there if they want a particular player.

That's what worries me about Lulu, that she'll see that we didn't make the tourney and may not have momentum and that her exposure somewhere else would really give her more opportunities.

On the other hand, I think the aussies plus her relationship with Charmin and the vision that we really could have a strong team next year (if we keep Taylor and puff and gisella) is big in our favor.

So the issue is simply NIL.

We've got so much depth next year if we can keep this core group together. I'm hoping Lulu wants to end her career playing alongside her two countrywomen.

I do think unless we find some whale donor it will be hard to keep Puff, Taylor, Gisella and Lulu. But to me that would be an incredible nucleus to build off of to make serious ACC waves next year.

Please, please relax. Enjoy the rest of the season and postseason.

As I said previously, Meghin Williams (our GM) has this under control based upon what she said at the Chalk Talk on Thursday. She will fight to keep that nucleus.

I'm trying to understand how returning all but 2 players and bringing in 4 recruits is uh, not a recipe for depth. Oh yeah, 4 of those returners being starters.

Clay-in your coaching experience, would you classify that as depth or worthless rhetoric?

Many fans on this board would gladly do a trade. No more Jenny for no more Shocky!

Allow me to chime in on this one. "Jenny" in reality is an administrator. Shocky is someone that posts on this forum. You cannot "do a trade" here because the two roles are completely independent of each other, thus the question becomes irrelevant.

I don't think it's a trade - it's a statement that if O'Neill goes, then Shocky will go with her. Unless he sticks around for his lust for Ojukwu.

My initial reaction to this is - we play in a P4 conference. We play against big teams. We have 9 theoretically players returning under 6 feet in height. If we want to get serious this needs to change. We don't need 9 guards or wings. Don't mean to be cold, but 2 or 3 of those returning guards are of no use to us. They need to be replaced with true frontcourt players, otherwise next year we still struggle to make it even to the middle of the ACC standings.

more bull**** rhetoric from a failing bureaucrat that ignores the fact that she's failed to generate NIL fundraising and/or practice facility fundraising which could result in the women's basketball roster blowing up just like the softball program did this past off season with every starter getting better NIL deals at every new school which wuz ignited by jenny not recognizing that her recently extended head coach wuz disrespecting all the players & assistant coaches...simon-o'neil learned exactly ZERO from her experiences protecting the abusive mckeever

naya is not 6'1", she's maybe 5'11" and should be playing the 3 (as a nightmare mismatch that posts up opposing 3s), a physical 4 & a spot duty 5

this above roster if it stays together (which is unlikely) will be the shortest wbb roster among the power 4 conferences & will cement a potential 20 loss season with zero interior d & rebounding

I agree about our overabundance of non useful guards. Per Megan's comments that Charmin would never cut anyone who wanted to return- in order to get more taller portal transfers we would need some of these non or less productive guards to transfer out-but what is the liklihood that we can keep all of our best players and enough of the other guards transfer out?
