Cal looks like they have not touched a basketball since their last game. None of their seven three point efforts were close to going in. Their defense allowed layup attempts consistently for Santa Clara. Fortunately, Bears are taller and are dominating the boards.
Lulu Twidale and Sakima Walker are the offense for Cal. Puff Morris is throwing up too many shots that are not on target. The person that should be given some shots is Taylor Barnes who is doing a solid job rebounding (7). I think that this shorter team is the type that Naya Ojukwu can exploit if given a chance. Gisella Maul has been invisible in the 1st half with 2 points and 1 rebound. Miracle Sheppard played with intensity but missed another easy layup. She has four points but has grabbed four boards.
Santa Clara is getting their scoring from Miller (10) & Gildersleeve-Stiles (7) inside. They are more physical than their Cal counterparts. This is another reason that Ojukwu needs to matchup with them.
If either team gets hot from distance, they probably will take this sloppy game. Kansas State is awaiting the
winner.

Broncos take over the game in the 3rd quarter 26-13. They are more physical than the Bears. Charmin Smith is playing the wrong personnel. Donez, McCallop & Puff cannot defend SCU's guard and cannot match their points. Walker was held scoreless in the quarter. It's obvious that Ojukwu has no future in Berkeley because her coach doesn't see her as a solution.
Cal reverses things in the fourth quartrer and outscores Santa Clara by 10. Twidale and Walker contributed 27 & 19 points, respectively. Next season, the Bears need a couple of other guards that are consistent offensive threats. The team is often playing a couple of players that are limited offensively. As an example, SCU sagged off of Puff Morris from three-point land, and she refused to take the shot.

Based on livestats - both teams are just woeful on three pointers tonite. with 4:35 to go in the third, Cal clinging to a 42-37 lead. SCU with the ball after a Maul foul - but I don't know if it was a shooting foul.The lead was as high as 10 in the second. Ugh- it was a shotoing foul and now it's 42-39.
Bears are 17-51! and 3-22 from deep. Sheppard with 3 fouls. And I don't know why Walker is on the bench - unless it's the heat y'all are saying is present on the court.

Is LiveStats stuck at 8:45 with Miller fouling some Bear and Bears getting two free throws. it's been a while since there's been an update.
Was there some official review of the foul? What else to explain the delay - unless it's just a LiveStats issue.

Incredible comeback win but I can't sugarcoat it. This was a disappointing effort until the final quarter. The Bears weren't moving without the ball, went ice cold in the third, and frankly let smaller, less athletic Santa Clara guards drive to the basket at will. The lack of timeouts from the staff when we desperately needed them was baffling. Thank goodness we finally woke up in the fourth!!
And yikes we have to do better on the viewing experience. The crowd could've been bigger, sure, but the temperature inside was brutal when we walked in. Twidale had to remove her compression shirt I'm assuming due to the heat. We ran out of rosters because we didn't print enough for a playoff game!! Print extras, it's not complicated. Oh, and the scoreboard at the score table glitched out and looked like the Matrix for a minute with all of our computer files showing. Sighs.
But hey… a win! GO BEARS!
