Vatev is Stanford bound. Luka's still in play.

#19 Yi Zheng has also verballed to Stanford on the men's side.

Would be such a brilliant coup if all 3 generational prospects were to commit here (#1 Luka Mijatovic & #2 Rylee Erisman ... #1 Audrey Derivaux), but my fervent wishes don't necessarily align with the reality that the competition for these coveted top guns is pretty cutthroat with some programs having an advantage in leveraging their considerable war chests & deep pockets (think Texas, Indiana etc).

Swimswam reader comments from this article:

#2 Luke Vatev Announces Commitment To Stanford For 2027

Doe: "Commitments from the big 3 of this class (Erisman, Derivaux , Mijatovic) have to be coming soon!"

Willswim: "I have a feeling Erisman and Derivaux are going to the same school, it would be crazy if one school got all three."

Crooked lane lines: "They're not going to the same school. Word on street is they have different favorites…. Thank god haha. Those powerhouses need to be separated!"

VFL: "They went to Cal, TX, and UVA together. Erisman also went to Tenn. Any other visits for Derivaux?"

SwimmerTX: "Erisman was also at Michigan. Also curious to see where Shareef Elaydi ends up, he's been pretty silent in the mix of convos."

From all indications, the men's team have another incoming verbal...maybe the big one? :p

At any rate, this coming week could shape up to be a critical one, as I have a feeling we are going to be hearing from the as yet uncommitted heavyweights of this class, on both the men's and the women's side...

Nikki Nixon committed to Georgia, so now 3 of the top 5 recruits remain uncommitted (Derivaux, Erisman, #4 Alyssa Ton). See the below discourse from Nixon's commitment article:

Georgia Bulldogs Pick Up Verbal Commitment from #5 Nikki Nixon for 2027-28

kinda valid ngl: Maybe if uva didn't have coaches [and the entire program, for that matter] getting safe-sported they would have better luck.

Bobthebuilderrocks: After reading this comment, I checked the top 20 recruits page from earlier this fall and I'm shocked to see there's 3 top 10s remaining and no UVA commits in the top 10. For the 5 times defneding champions, that is nuts

SwimFan: Rylee Erisman is not going to UVA. Still hope for Audrey Derivaux, but there's not a lot of other top 2027 girls left…

WhatAreTheirCocktails: I don't think it's confirmed where she's going but considering UVA Swim's Instagram doesn't follow Rylee but they still follow Audrey… UVA can be ruled out (their Instagram account has always unfollowed recruits once they verbal somewhere else)

Bobthebuilderrocks: Is Erisman confirmed Cal?

Braden Keith: Not confirmed, but that's what the rumor mill is saying.

WhatAreTheirCocktails: Given the schools she apparently visited (Michigan, Texas, Cal, UVA, Tennessee) and her event profile (sprint free/back)… Cal actually makes the most sense if UVA is out of the picture
That's not even considering her brother goes there lol

Couple more comments from the above article for your entertainment (and hopes) whilst we all await their announcements with bated breath - that 2nd post surely echoes our wishful sentiments here

Bobthebuilderrocks: "That's cool, Cal women looking better than the men after what they've been through is so wild"

Heck no: "Audrey and Rylee are good friends, wouldn't it be nice if they both went to Cal?"

Relatively old news, but #4 Alyssa Ton committed to Tennessee where their recruiting has been red hot 2 years in a row now, overtaking many of the traditional swimming powerhouses.

In the commitment article below, the common consensus seems to be that out of the 5 colleges visited by #2 Rylee Erisman, two are likely out of the running - Virginia & Michigan. If true, then Rylee's choice may be narrowing down to Cal or Texas, with Tennessee.as the dark horse. Would hope that academics is an important factor in her decision making, even if a certain other program can offer much more financial incentive...

This is admittedly a completely unscientific projection lol, based partly on Erisman not posting about her trip to Michigan, combining her Tennessee & Virginia visits into the same post, and reportedly no longer following UVa (& vice versa) or UM (Tenn as well?).

Similar situation for #1 Audrey Derivaux, who had joined Erisman on 3 of their trips (Cal, Texas, Virginia).

I'm not sure if Audrey had visited any other schools though. swimmer19 may have a better idea

I don't have any other info on Derivaux's visits other than what is already known. I will say that I am surprised she didn't give Georgia or Stanford a look, given the two programs' historical successes in her primary events.

That being said, there are still a handful of Cal visitors who have yet to make a decision:
- HM Sofia Szymanowski (breast): from SoCal (Corona Del Mar/Irvine Novaquatics), also took trips to UVA, Michigan, USC, and UCLA
- #16 Isabel Wu (fly/IM): local recruit (Archbishop Mitty/Santa Clara Swimming), took known trips to Princeton and Stanford
- #20 Mia Su (breast): another local recruit from the same HS/club program as Isabel Wu, was on the same Princeton trip and also visited Duke
RollOnYouAll
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Appreciate your informed take on all of this, swimmer19!

Would seem from their visits that locals #16 Isabel Wu & #20 Mia Su have their eyes on academics (Cal, the Farm, Duke, Ivy Leagues),

HM Sofia Szymanowski may be targeting major swim programs with an academics reputation (Cal, UVA, Michigan) on top of her local SoCal schools (USC, UCLA)

Would love to welcome any of the above 3 recruits here, but inevitably the buzz, and our collective hopes/dreams here lol, revolve round #1 Audrey Derivaux & #2 Rylee Erisman!

------------

Rylee Erisman Breaks Gretchen Walsh's National High School Record in 100 Freestyle

" Erisman's time was the second-fastest of her career, trailing only the 46.69 she managed at last year's Winter Juniors-East. In addition to breaking Walsh's overall national high school record, which was set in 2020, Erisman lowered the public-school standard of 47.09, formerly held by Olympian Abbey Weitzeil.

Erisman also won the 50 freestyle on Friday night, behind a time of 21.67. That mark was not far off Walsh's national record of 21.59.

At last summer's World Junior Championships, Erisman was a star for the United States. On top of winning gold medals in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, the teenager won the silver medal in the 200 freestyle and exited with four relay medals."

------------

Rylee Erisman Breaks Gretchen Walsh's 100 Free National High School Record with 46.73

"Only a junior, Rylee Erisman of Windermere High School broke Gretchen Walsh's five-year old National High School record with a 46.73 in the 100 free today at Florida's 4A State Championships.

Erisman just-missed Weitziel's 100 free public schools record at last year's meet when she swam 47.14. Weitzeil is a six-time Olympic medalist.

While Erisman has not yet announced her college commitment, she took official visits to Texas, Tennessee, Michigan, Cal, and Virginia."

"In Rylee's most recent Social Kick interview, she mentioned deciding on college in late October or November and specifically said she didn't want wait until March to decide, but I do wonder if she is reconsidering that.
She and Audrey don't have to worry about any school finding a spot for them regardless of when they decide, and when they graduate in 2027, they also need to decide whether to start college right away or delay college until after the Olympics.
Given that Virginia's Instagram account is no longer following Rylee or Audrey, it seems to indicate that Virginia is out of the running, unless this is all a ploy to confuse SwimSwam commenters. Given her previous statement that she would decide by this month, perhaps we will find out this week."

heck no replied to NJ Cab:
"I would not be positive Rylee will wait for her class. Switching to a new coach going into an Olympic year feels too chaotic. She broke the record, there's nothing left to do in high school. Virginia is out. Texas or Cal starting next year. "

The previous 2027 recruit has yet to make their commitment public.

HOWEVER, from Josh Huger as of an hour ago:
"Class of 2027 2026 + 1... Cal W Swim +1", noting that the 2027 recruit will enroll with our 2026 signees. Makes me think this might be Rylee Erisman and that she will be joining us a year early. Fingers crossed.

Edit from Braden Keith on Twitter, referencing Huger's post: Cannot confirm this is her but rumor there was going around that Rylee Erisman was going to graduate early and start early, wherever she wound up…

That being said, Braden's rumor sources have been correct in having knowledge of our recent top women's commits before the athletes themselves made an announcement.

Didn't want to get our hopes too high lol but when I saw Josh Huger's latest post, I was thinking along the same lines as swimmer19. And a nice catch there spotting Braden's tweet on Rylee graduating early in reference to the Huger message! Fingers crossed indeed

Could be wishful thinking on my part, but also noticed that #16 Isabel Wu & #20 Mia Su liked Huger's announcement, maybe they'll commit here for the recruiting class of 2027... ??

Wouldn't want to read too much into this either, but Rylee's bestie #1 Audrey Derivaux (already verballed to Texas) who had visited Cal together also liked Josh's post...

Update: New insta story from Huger: "CLASS OF 2027 2026 COMMITTED SIGNED"

It's official. Let's go!!!

Rylee Erisman: I'm honored and excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of California, Berkeley. I would also like to announce I will be reclassifying to the graduating class of 2026. I'm so grateful for my family, coaches at Laker Swim, and friends who have supported me throughout this journey. A special thank you to all the coaching staff at CAL! I could not be more excited for this opportunity!

World Junior Champion Rylee Erisman Sends Verbal To Cal, Reclassifies To Class of 2026

Woohoo & yay yay - welcome to Bear Territory, Rylee, LFG!!!

Some highlights from the above article:

" Erisman, ranked #2 in the girls' high school class of 2027, will graduate high school earlier than expected and join the Bears this coming fall.

The 16-year-old will head to Berkeley from her native Florida, where she trains at Laker Swim under coach Kyle Goller and also represents Windermere High School in the FHSAA.

Erisman has been on a record-breaking tear throughout 2025, most recently breaking Gretchen Walsh's National High School Record in the girls' 100 freestyle in a time of 46.73 at the 2025 FHSAA 4A State Championships, where she successfully defended both her titles in the 50 free (21.61) and 100 free.

This past summer, Erisman delivered a dominant performance at the 2025 World Junior Swimming Championships in Otopeni, Romania, winning five gold and eight total medals, the most any swimmer has ever won at a single edition of the meet.

In the girls' high school class of 2027, Erisman held the fastest time in the 50, 100, 200 and 500 free, and the 100 back. Reclassifying to the class of 2026, she would still rank 1st in the 50, 100 and 200 free, overtaking Charlotte Crush, who ranked #1 in the class and holds respective bests of 21.88, 47.85 and 1:44.34.

Erisman's best time in the 100 free would've placed 4th at the 2025 Women's NCAA Championships;

Erisman's 50 free time is also fast enough to make the 2025 NCAA 'A' final (21.63 tied for 7th in the prelims), while her 200 free PB would have placed 10th in the NCAA prelims, just over a quarter of a second shy of what it took to make the top eight last season (1:43.24). In the 100 back, her lifetime best of 51.36 is 16 one-hundredths back of what it took to earn a second swim in 2025 (51.20).

After a few down years, the Cal women have been on the upswing with some key freshmen joining the team this season, including five from the top-20 in the high school class of 2025. Leading the way are #2 Teagan O'Dell and #3 Claire Weinstein, and they've also added #5 Annie Jia, #12 Elle Scott and #18 Ella Cosgrove.

In Cal's class of 2026, Erisman joins ranked recruits #5 Kelsey Zhang, #9 Ava De Anda, along with Madeline Kohel, Egle Salu, Isabel Wolk, Canadian Halle West, Hong Kong's Kassy Yeung and Egyptian Olympic diver Malak Tawfik."
