Thi Rai (#20 on SwimCloud) has committed to Cal. From the Bolles School program in Jacksonville, FL (same team as sophomore Carter Lancaster and Cal legend Ryan Murphy), holds 53.44/1:55.38 in the breaststroke events.

Second men's commit of the class

SwimSwam #5 Davis Jackson (TAC Titans/Raleigh, NC) announced his verbal. Welcome!

Jackson is the #4 all time 15-16 year old in the 200 back (1:41.2), which is the top time of the 2027 cohort. He's on the US National Junior Team in the 100 back, and also has potential in the 100 fly and both IM distances.

Davis Jackson, the #5 Recruit in the Class of 2027, Verbally Commits to Cal

Davis Jackson Swims 1:39.26 200 Back at Cary Sectionals (Day 4), #2 This Season For 17-18 Boys

TAC Titans' Davis Jackson dominated the 200 back, throwing down a lifetime best time of 1:39.26 to break 1:40 for the first time and win the event by almost five seconds.

The 17-year-old knocked two seconds off of his previous personal best (1:41.28) to claim the meet title in the event. His performance marked the 2nd-fastest time in the country this season in the boys' 17-18 age group, just behind Indiana University's David Kovacs (1:39.18).

Jackson, who is committed to Cal Berkeley for fall 2027, now sits at #7 on the ranking of all-time top times in the 200 back for the boys' 17-18 age group.

Jackson's victory in the 200 back landed him his third individual victory of the meet; he won the 100 back (45.90) and 400 IM (3:44.36).

Women's team got a big commitment from an international sprinter. Not sure who it might be yet, but it's sounding like an elite addition to complement the 2026 sprint group (Moluh, Erisman, West etc)

Well, from what you are describing, my wish would be Theodora Taylor from Wales. She finished just behind Rylee at International Juniors in the 50 and 100 Free. She also has the unusual combination of being a sprint breaststroker too.

You may be on to something here (fingers crossed!), I'm excited for what's to come!

Theodora's social media, FWIW, has her following Josh, a lot of the current team (including the "lower tier" swimmers), and 2026 (Rylee) + 2027 (Alba Arnall) recruits...

OTOH, she's also following the official swim accounts for the likes of UVa, Stanford, USC... :p

Possibly Sum Yiu Li from Hong Kong per swimswam

Sum Yiu Li of Hong Kong has announced her commitment to continue her academic and athletic careers at Cal in fall 2027.
Li represented Hong Kong at the 2025 World Junior Championships and finished 7th in the 50 free with a 25.34. She also was 9th in the 100 free with a 55.05. She also swam at the 2025 World Championships, finishing 30th in the 50 free (25.54) and 31st in the 100 free (55.58) while also swimming on two relays.
Her best time in the 50 free of a 25.03 comes from July 2024 when she most notably broke Siobhan Haughey's old junior city record at the Hong Kong Open Swimming Championships. Li holds the Hong Kong junior record in the 50 free.
Li's Best LCM Times (With SCY Conversions):
  • 50 free: 25.03 (21.82)
  • 100 free: 54.87 (47.99)
The Cal women are coming off of a successful 2026 NCAA Championships that included a 4th place finish, the team's highest since 2021. Freshman Claire Weinstein led the way and was highlighted by an NCAA title in the 500 free.
Based on her best converted times, Li is a huge addition to the team's sprint group as her 50 free time would have been 2nd on the roster and her 100 free would have been 4th. Their 200 free relay was 5th at 2026 NCAAs.
Li will arrive in fall 2027 and join the class of 2031 that includes Mia Su (breaststroke) and Alba Arnall (fly/back). The class of 2031 will follow a strong class of 2030 that includes #5 ranked Kelsey Zhang and #9 ranked Ava De Anda. Also in the class of 2030 will be Rylee Erisman, the #2 ranked recruit for 2027 but has reclassified to join the class of 2026 (Cal graduating class of 2030). Erisman and Li were both in the 50 free final at 2025 World Juniors.

Oops she actually coming in the fall 2027 & not the same year as Rylee. Maybe the mysterious recruit is still in play.

Confirmed commit, welcome to Sum Yiu Li! This was the name I heard rumors about but wanted to wait for confirmation.

Sprint group is looking real good. Moluh, West, Erisman, Jia, O'Dell… plus incoming Ava De Anda and stroke sprinters… if any other team in the NCAA is watching, I'd be scared of this group.

Yes, welcome to Sum Yiu Li!

I'd like to hope that Theodora Taylor's still in play for Bears... :p

Speaking of loading up on sprint talent, a name to keep an eye on is in-state Gabi Brito (SoCal) who is co-ranked #1 in the *2028 Recruiting Class*, along with Mikayla Tan (East Bay) & Reina Liu (NC), according to swimcloud.

Here are some PB highlights of the 3 recruits:

--------------

Gabi Brito
Beach Cities Alpha

*50 Free*: 21.95
*100 Free*: 47.77
*100 Back*: 51.46
*100 Fly*: 51.20

Not sure what Gabi's best time is in the *200 IM(, but based on her 1:01.60 best in the *100 Breast*, she may have some potential in the shorter individual medley, though her strong suit is clearly in the 100s Free, Fly & Back...

--------------

Reina Liu
TAC Titans (NC)

*100 Back*: 51.00
*200 Back*: 1:52.17
*200 IM*: 1:55.86

--------------

Mikayla Tan
San Ramon Valley Aquatics (CA)

*200 Breast*: 2:06.74
*200 IM*: 1:56.13
*100 Breast*: 59.04

Welcome back. Haven't seen you post for awhile. Does Brito have a sister at USC? I believe there is a freshman this year by the name of Brito.

Yes, Gabi Brito has an older sister Bella who placed 3rd in the 100 Breast with a 59.10 at this year's B1G Conference as a freshman, and 28th @ 2026 NCAAs for the Trojans. Bella was ranked #24 in the recruiting class of 2025 by swimcloud.

Chances are SC has an advantage in recruiting Gabi because of this family connection (just like we had perhaps with Rylee Erisman joining her brother Ryan here).

But I remain hopeful that the inspirational example from this year's National Championships of team bonding & spirit, of the Women's team's tight camaderie and support of each other, coupled with the Bears' overachievements @ NCAAs, their rapid upward trajectory which will put them in the conversation for the Top 3, stellar coaching, and naturally the academics at Cal, will all appeal to Gabi and mesh with her personal aspirations.
