I'm one too. Interesting and fun that we have some locals heading up some programs. Off the top of my head, Coach Singleton, Coach Lup, and Coach Madsen.

I love way Coach Sing talks about "this place", I think it will serve him well when recruiting. Like Coch Lup said, we're about to get dangerous...

It appears as if HC Singleton does not have the initial four games streamed on ACCNX. His announcement for this weekend does not include anything other than live stats.

CalFanatic-can you give him a "heads up" that Stanford has all five games on ACCNX this weekend. Perhaps the new coach does not know how everything works yet? There's no way that ACCNX can show the Cardinal and not the Bears against the same opponents at the same location.

I did an ACCNX search and found the softball games scheduled. This weekend all of the Stanford games are listed but not any Cal games (except Stanford). This should not be correct but it is scheduled. I think that Steve Singleton needs to be made aware of this problem for his ACC team.

It may not be apparent, but in these preseason games/tournaments, the host schools typically only show games featuring the host teams... Neither Coach Singleton nor typically our AD (except maybe for our home games) has anything to do with whether a game is shown or not at these kinds of 'away' tournaments. Hopefully, with the new stadium, we can start hosting our own tournaments... Then we can have the Cal games shown on broadcast or streaming of some kind...

CAGB3-thank you for your response to my query. Flo Softball streams some of the big tournaments coming up like the Mary Nutter, etc. I just don't recall many situations where 4 of 5 games are not shown. GO BEARS!

True. Tournaments like Mary Nutter are different (because they're not being hosted by a single school or at the home field of a school) so they'll try to show most, if not, all of the games... Other tournaments like the Clearwater Invitational will do something similar. For example, I think a few of those games are being shown on the MLB Network... But I haven't looked to see if all of those games are being broadcasted.

Oklahoma State is picked second place in the Big 12 and is ranked #20 in the nation. Cal is likely going to have difficulty competing with this team. Stanford is picked third in the ACC so will also be a formidable foe. San Jose State is beatable, but the Bears lost to them at SJS last season.

McGowan is batting seventh as the P/DP. Cal has only two right-handed hitters in their lineup.

Cal's opener was a one-sided affair against a nationally ranked opponent, Oklahoma State. The Bears only managed one hit after the first inning and were thrashed 8-3. Frosh pitcher, Mia McGowan, had a rough baptism under fire to college softball, yielding six earned runs in 3 1/3 IP.

Kyndall Todd connects on her 2nd HR in two games in the top of the 1st inning. Bears KO frosh starter after five batters and brings in ace, senior Ruby Meylon.. She started for the Washington Huskies for two seasons, and this is her second year with the Okie State. She throws with high velocity. She quickly kills the rally. It's Cal up, 2-0.

Leyna Gerhart will start for the Bears today in the circle. The Cowgirls quickly answer with three consecutive singles and a sac fly to tie things up 2-2. Just my take, but singles to short RF & short LF and a ground ball through the hole at SS does not sound as if the Bears are making a ton of defensive plays behind their RHP.

Ruby Meylan has pitched 3 2/3 IP against Cal (last night & today) and has retired 11 in a row w/ 3 Ks. It appeared as if the Bears could hit their second and third starters before they were replaced by her.

In the B2nd, Cal pitchers walk the bases loaded with nobody out. Taylor Peacock is now in for Layna Gerhard. The OK State frosh leadoff hitter, Jayelle Austin, blasts a grand slam to put the home team up 6-2 with no outs in the B2nd. Claire Timm crushes a deep 2-run bomb to CF off of Peacock to make it 8-2. Bear's pitching appears to be no match for the hitting of this nationally ranked team.

Meylan continues mowing down Cal batters in the T3rd with 14 straight w/ 5 strikeouts. Why not use your other pitchers with such a big lead?

Kiki Mashhound enters in the B3rd and loads the bases with no outs. Error on second base, Emma Jackson, allows the merry-go-round to continue. Five runs are in (13-2) with one out. After three frames, OKST rampaging Cal's pitching staff, 15-2. They have received 7 free passes and collected 10 hits plus an infield error.

I'll return for the San Jose State game at 1pm to see how we measure up w/ the Spartans. I was worried about the quality of pitching that Singelton had assembled and it's even worse than I had imagined.

Spartans rally for 8 runs in B2nd vs Mya McGowan to take a 9-2 lead. McGowan yields 8 earned runs on 8 hits in two innings against San Jose State. She gave up another homerun.

Wow. That is really, really bad.

Spartans run-rule Bears, 10-2, in 5 innings. I don't know how this team will win any games with the lack of pitching and hitting that they've shown through three games. The new coaching staff must be in a state of shock.

Glad I didn't make it out today. Stay safe out there. This flu is no joke.

And to think Cal won't win "any games" this season is obviously ridiculous and not grounded in reality. That said, I've mentioned before on this thread that this team is completely new and largely unproven. The ACC preseason rankings never made sense to me. I expect some real struggles this season. Enjoy the ride while this group finds its footing.

Cal executes nice, clean 1-0 victory today. Bears committed zero errors but only mustered 3 singles vs SJS. I'm certain that will not cut it against Stanford in the nitecap. GO BEARS!

I watched the 1st inning and Cal's defense cannot seem to make plays that a good team would. The Stanford ace has ten strikeouts in the initial 5 innings. She has faced one over the minimum. Cardinal 6, Bears 0. Tamya Waiters looks to be a decent pitcher based upon the four innings that she pitched against Stanford. She has an off-speed pitch and throws strikes. Waiters only gave up 1 earned run over four IP.

Cal doesn't quit and scores two runs in the T7th. Final: Stanford 7, Cal 2.

Stanford ends the weekend undefeated (5-0) while Cal finishes 1-4.
