What's the injury for Mya McGowan? Cal will need to hit to keep this game from becoming a 5 inning run-rule outcome. Kayla Lee was called out to end the second inning for stepping out of the batter's box. Cal rallies back in the B3rd with three consecutive hits to narrow the UNC lead to 5-4. Waiters cannot throw strikes so she is yanked with the bases loaded and no one out. Taylor Peacock is the Bear's fourth pitcher of the game in the fourth frame. She can usually throw strikes, but she possesses the worst ERA (7.21) on the team. She walked in a run and then almost escaped without further damage by getting three straight infield ground balls. Unfortunately, Gator Robinson booted the potential third out to allow a 7th unearned run. The Tarheels jump out 7-4.

Bears load the bases with one out in the B4th but fail to score. The #3 hitter, Robinson, & #4 Raven both flew out.
This lack of clutch hitting might cost the game.

I was right. North Carolina obliterates Cal pitching, 13-5.

The Bears are fighters!! Clawing their way back into this game.

Now trail by 1, 5-4, bottom of the 3rd! Knocked out the starting pitcher for UNC.

Go Bears!!!

Edit: alright the day overall didn't suck, just the losing part did.
The pitching situation was a real bummer. Kiki Mashhoud, Tamya Waiters, Layna Gerhard, and Taylor Peacock all gave it 150% this weekend. But with an already small rotation AND Mya & Anaya being out, going 3 days with only those 4 was a tall order. They were all out of juice and playing on fumes.

But they fought. Boy did Cal fight like hell this weekend. It felt like a different team out there compared to the one that played against Duke. That was the Cal team I've been waiting to see this season, the one that fights and plays up towards their potential. At the end of every game this past weekend, I walked away feeling like "that could've gone our way". Those losses felt like normal losses instead of the "we never had a chance" losses we got against Duke.

But on a bright note, I recorded videos of Cal's hits so highlight reels are on the menu. Fortunately, the atmosphere post game with the parents & players was optimistic/upbeat. The win Saturday really helped with that.

A ton of great commentary from the announcers on the Steve Singleton hire and as many of us have been saying, likely won't be long before this program is back to its glory days. Have to get through a tough rebuilding season (without a stadium).

Three unearned runs allowed by an error on an easy high hop groundball to second baseman, Emma Jackson. Pathetic. Cal is down 5-0 now after three innings.

Kyndall Todd comes back with a 2-run HR to center field. The game should be tied 2-2. The lack of defense hurts the pitchers badly. It turns off long term fans like me bigtime. GO BEARS!

Todd absolutely drilled that out of the park. Go Castro Valley!

5-2 Florida State

Isa Torres broke the NCAA record for 14 hits in 14 ABs. She hit the ball very well but Kayli Counts ran into the CF fence and fell down. The ball hit the fence a few feet to her right. If she played the ball correctly, she would have had an opportunity to catch it.

Another 3-run blast and it's 10-2 in the B4th. Now another bomb off of Gerhart and it's 12-2. She failed to get anyone out and has been replaced by Taylor Peacock. Ninth hitter for the Seminoles with only a single out. It's glorified batting practice.

Final: Mercy rule implemented after Bears retired in order in the T5th. Thank goodness.

That pic of construction of the new field for Cal was great. Loved seeing that. Hated everything about the game though, that was rough

Today's game was 8-0 after two innings. Florida State crushed Mya McGowan for seven earned runs in her one inning of work. She yielded six hits and two walks while retiring three Seminoles.

I was told she will be back, but I was not given a time frame on when.

As an aside, I know we ended up giving the record breaking hits to Isa Torres (some of those were ridiculously lucky in her favor) but I'm glad we walked out of there ending her streak, instead of someone else doing it later on. A miniscule sized victory, but it's something.

Looks like they're working Togia back in the lineup. Hopefully her injury isn't too bad, my theory is she pulled a hamstring, but I can't confirm that.

Nice win. Happy to see we let McGowan work through some struggles and pitch the complete game.

Not a big fan of letting Dayton score seven, especially when (1) we had a run-rule sized lead going into the 5th & 6th, and (2) giving up 3 in the 7th. But I'll take the win.

yup.. I was hoping for the 5 inning game but Dayton got the 2runs after the 2-out Jjackson error.And then they brought in their best pitcher

No dice. You need a B1G+ subscription or a cable plan with the B1G network. It's not on ESPN+. I'm not shelling out $15 for one (1) softball game when I can just watch the statcast. But if anyone has a login lmk lol

#1 rated Bay Area recruit Alanna Clincy has allowed just one hit across her last three starts for Willow Glen. Yes, you read that correctly. One hit. Adding a senior or grad transfer from the portal to bridge the gap from 2026 to 2027 would be a huge boost for the program.

Speaking of, it looks like Clincy was just named one of the finalists for the top 40 in the country to play in the All Star Game on ESPNU on July 25th. Congratulations!

There's a few different rating services...none of them I really put much weight in other than it being something fun to brag about....but for California, I'm a big supporter of https://westcoastpreps.com/.

Unlike some of the others, I know they've actually seen these players play, and mommy and daddy aren't writing in to them. They have Alanna #1 in Northern California.
