Why would anyone want to leave Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Alaska, Mississippi, Oklahoma, or West Virginia?
Why would Democrats allow people to sneak into and stay in the country illegally?
Why would you care if you live in Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Alaska, Mississippi, Oklahoma, or West Virginia?
Research groups like Oxfam America indicate the following states have the highest proportion of the workforce in low wage brackets, with Mississippi ranked the highest:
1. Mississippi
2. West Virginia
3. Alabama
4. Arkansas
5. Oklahoma
The reason why some people, low wage earners, might move to what you or I might call a depressed hell-hole is that is where the most low paying jobs are to be had. Many of these jobs are hard labor jobs like construction laborers, and these jobs often go begging, because not many are willing to take the hard work for low pay jobs. But those living in another state, or another country, would welcome the chance to get such a job, for a while, at least, until they find something better.
You have written of your wealth and investment successes. But there is a portion of the populace which has to compete for low wage jobs, and when a city or state sees an influx of workers looking for jobs, any jobs, even low wage jobs, just to fend off any cold weather, or hunger, or crime, just for living on the streets or in other poverty situations, there is friction created between haves and and have-nots. There is also much resentment from citizens against the arrival of immigrants or just folks moving from one state to another, when they hear of available jobs, no matter if the jobs don't pay well.
I've seen the resentment of local workers, the low wage earners, when large groups of immigrants started flooding over the borders. The migrants sometimes work 2 or 3 times as hard as local workers, and they usually work for less pay. But when they come to a state, the local workers already there can no longer compete on a level playing field with migrants for jobs they used to easily find.
