I don't disagree with what AI is saying about Vargas. I only wanted to make the point that the world has turned and other countries are taking our players like we take theirs. Vargas was born here and learned his soccer here. And now he is playing for Mexico. There are fights now over the best Mexican-American teenagers, that is, players raised here with some Mexican heritage. Mexico wanted Ricardo Pepi but he chose us.

Vargas also just happens to play one of the positions where we are short. I like him a lot as a player.

I'm glad you ripped on Adam's for that early foul which led to a goal.
I looked at location and was pissed!!!
He wasn't ready to play.

And yet, the broadcast said nothing about it. And no replay of the foul.
Meanwhile, I'm like, that goal was 100% on Adams.

I can only trust that he knows it and has it out of his system.
You may recall I called him a hothead last week here, and he proved it yesterday. If he does that again in a game that matters, I bench him!!

What do you think of the tackle by the US player that started the scuffle towards the end of the game? Was that clean or did it deserve a card?

The card came probably because after Weah popped up he went at the guy, too.

The tackle was wreckless and dangerous but he didn't really actually hit him that hard. Studs were up, just naughty - but missed.

I think Weah has been demoted to second string (because he lacks touch) and he made the strong move to inject life into his squad (which was down 1 and treating it like a practice) AND show his coach that he can do more than run fast and fire off crosses down the right wing (which Pochetino appreciates!). That's what I thought of the hard tackle, why he did it.

In the moments when you are about to be eliminated, you want men who will FIGHT!!
Elimination games are coming, soon! Teams get eliminated during the Group Stage!

Dangerous sliding tackle studs out, should have had a yellow.

Germany had many rough tackles during the day. I don't think they are in position to complain. Their tackle on Pulisic from behind could have put him out of the Cup.

Hmmm. Pulisic went down a couple times but if you are talking about the one I think you are talking about, I saw the replay and was like, he's fine.
Pulisic works refs because he's traditionally been targeted and needs to. I don't think Germany cared too much to bother with that. For them, this was a preparatory match.
But maybe I'm thinking of a different tackle.

Technically it was not a foul. His front foot hit the ball. He back leg was tucked and tripped the player but that does not matter. Now was it smart? He went in very hard with one minutes left until the world cup. Maybe his studs were showing, I am not sure, I would have to watch a replay. And he already had a card. Another yellow gets him a suspension. I don't think a suspension from a friendly would lead to a suspension for a real game, but I am not sure what the rules are; I have never seen a red in a friendly. From Weah's viewpoint, Dest has taken his job. He needs to show some grit to make sure he gets on the field.

We agree for the most part.
I think it was definitely borderline because of the pace of his approach. You can break a guy's leg with your body (not just studs up) if you slide through as Weah did.

Probably no card if he retreats downfield after.

He did it to send a message his team. "Fight!" And his coach. "I'm a fighter!"
Fight is necessary, hopefully not physically, though.

Timothy Weah received a yellow card in stoppage time of the USA's 21 loss to Germany on June 6.

Most match reports place the booking at about 90+2 minutes. The yellow card was issued after a hard challenge on Germany's David Raum, which helped spark a brief confrontation between players from both teams.

Weah was not on a yellow before the tackle.

I didn't watch the game h til early this morning.

I thought Germany looked like 3-4 goal winners for a good part of the game. They sat back and practiced their bunkering positioning, which led to USA looking good.

But I think when they were on the front foot they looked like they were loping past us, and passing well to people who were always in a strong attacking position. It looked master class to me.

After we got into it, we definitely looked better.

I am hopeful after these past two games. It's very clear we are second rate, but it's also clear that we enter with a squad that is cohesive enough to win some games and provide some hope!!
