I don't disagree with what AI is saying about Vargas. I only wanted to make the point that the world has turned and other countries are taking our players like we take theirs. Vargas was born here and learned his soccer here. And now he is playing for Mexico. There are fights now over the best Mexican-American teenagers, that is, players raised here with some Mexican heritage. Mexico wanted Ricardo Pepi but he chose us.

Vargas also just happens to play one of the positions where we are short. I like him a lot as a player.

I'm glad you ripped on Adam's for that early foul which led to a goal.
I looked at location and was pissed!!!
He wasn't ready to play.

And yet, the broadcast said nothing about it. And no replay of the foul.
Meanwhile, I'm like, that goal was 100% on Adams.

I can only trust that he knows it and has it out of his system.
You may recall I called him a hothead last week here, and he proved it yesterday. If he does that again in a game that matters, I bench him!!

What do you think of the tackle by the US player that started the scuffle towards the end of the game? Was that clean or did it deserve a card?

The card came probably because after Weah popped up he went at the guy, too.

The tackle was wreckless and dangerous but he didn't really actually hit him that hard. Studs were up, just naughty - but missed.

I think Weah has been demoted to second string (because he lacks touch) and he made the strong move to inject life into his squad (which was down 1 and treating it like a practice) AND show his coach that he can do more than run fast and fire off crosses down the right wing (which Pochetino appreciates!). That's what I thought of the hard tackle, why he did it.

In the moments when you are about to be eliminated, you want men who will FIGHT!!
Elimination games are coming, soon! Teams get eliminated during the Group Stage!

Dangerous sliding tackle studs out, should have had a yellow.

Germany had many rough tackles during the day. I don't think they are in position to complain. Their tackle on Pulisic from behind could have put him out of the Cup.

Hmmm. Pulisic went down a couple times but if you are talking about the one I think you are talking about, I saw the replay and was like, he's fine.
Pulisic works refs because he's traditionally been targeted and needs to. I don't think Germany cared too much to bother with that. For them, this was a preparatory match.
But maybe I'm thinking of a different tackle.

Technically it was not a foul. His front foot hit the ball. He back leg was tucked and tripped the player but that does not matter. Now was it smart? He went in very hard with one minutes left until the world cup. Maybe his studs were showing, I am not sure, I would have to watch a replay. And he already had a card. Another yellow gets him a suspension. I don't think a suspension from a friendly would lead to a suspension for a real game, but I am not sure what the rules are; I have never seen a red in a friendly. From Weah's viewpoint, Dest has taken his job. He needs to show some grit to make sure he gets on the field.

We agree for the most part.
I think it was definitely borderline because of the pace of his approach. You can break a guy's leg with your body (not just studs up) if you slide through as Weah did.

Probably no card if he retreats downfield after.

He did it to send a message his team. "Fight!" And his coach. "I'm a fighter!"
Fight is necessary, hopefully not physically, though.

Timothy Weah received a yellow card in stoppage time of the USA's 21 loss to Germany on June 6.

Most match reports place the booking at about 90+2 minutes. The yellow card was issued after a hard challenge on Germany's David Raum, which helped spark a brief confrontation between players from both teams.

Weah was not on a yellow before the tackle.

I didn't watch the game h til early this morning.

I thought Germany looked like 3-4 goal winners for a good part of the game. They sat back and practiced their bunkering positioning, which led to USA looking good.

But I think when they were on the front foot they looked like they were loping past us, and passing well to people who were always in a strong attacking position. It looked master class to me.

After we got into it, we definitely looked better.

I am hopeful after these past two games. It's very clear we are second rate, but it's also clear that we enter with a squad that is cohesive enough to win some games and provide some hope!!

The 1994 World Cup was great. It was like FIFA wanted to introduce the game, the event, and the culture to America. I saw Brazil play for $50 and partied in the hotel lobby with Brazil fans. A really great time.

In 2026 it feels like FIFA wants to strip as much money away from Americans as possible, as well as anybody else foolish enough to attend. Soccer fans I know are sidelined. The talk is about the crazy prices and transportation (here in New Jersey) and not about the games or the matchups. Does not feel the same at all.

I'm not sure I'd go that far. But they are a match made in. . . well, somewhere

Mexico is the only host truly making the national teams feel like they're arriving at a World Cup. Meanwhile in the US and Canada, most people don't even know the tournament kicks off in a few days.

Weird how none of the Korean players even acknowledges the crowd gathered there to cheer for them, not even a glance...

The big teams will have fans lined up at their airport and hotel, see the French team in Boston:

Many teams landing in the US have been given the full TSA special, with dogs sniffing their luggage and metal detectors...

Some players having serious issues with US visas, unheard in the long history of the World Cup:

Maybe it was anarchistbear who made the quip earlier comparing 1936 Olympics to 2026 World Cup.

The similarities between Trump and Hitler have been made many times, and we shall see how he is portrayed in retrospectives, too.

The situation is sad, because it seems so predictable to some of us.

I read that Embolo was able to travel here after a two day delay. There was some excuse about a criminal charge in his past, but I don't believe that was the reason. I hope he has a great Cup, I have always liked him as a player.

The Somali ref appears like he will not make it. I hope he can be sent to Canada or Mexico. I suppose there is fear that one black man can bring down our whole country.

I think a 2 year ban from FIFA after the Cup would be an appropriate response for these egregious violations. And not that anyone cares but I will spend $0 on the Olympics, which I hope are taken away.

Denmark's Christian Eriksen collapsed in a friendly vs Ukraine two days ago.
This is the same guy who nearly died in a Euro match 5 years ago, and who was cleared to play after a pacemaker was implanted.

In that game, his heart stopped for many minutes until chest compressions (?) on the field restored it. Yesterday, the pacemaker did its job immediately.

I'm guessing this second heart instance causes his retirement at age 35.

Neither Denmark nor Ukraine qualified for this World Cup, it should be noted.

Trump lost most independents by reneging on many campaign promisses and engaging in openly corrupt behavior on an unprecedented scale.

Technically it was a defibrillator, a pacemaker regulates your heart, a defibrillator brings you back when your heart stops. I was surprised they let him play with one. At his best, he was a top player.

Back to the soccer. Chris Richards is fully practicing. Most likely, he will be physically able to play in the first game. But he is behind in training and did not play either of the two warm up games. Poch has a big decision to make. I would play him over Miles Robinson, since Robinson is a menace. I am not sure about versus Mark McKenzie, who is a more reliable player but not at Richards' level. It is important for the US to win its first two games because Turkiye will be a struggle.

Paraguay qualified out of South America. They know how to counter punch. They would be a terrible team to fall behind.

In one of our youth tournaments, specifically the Pleasant Hill tournament, we felt the home sides doctored the brackets.
We were essentially undefeated except for a couple Davis squads.
We had beat the PH teams in scrimmages handily , and everyone else.
I had gotten friendly with their coaches and was talking shop, who all the teams were.

To our surprise, they made one super bracket with all the best teams together so that only 1 would emerge into the semifinals. It was SO obvious they (PH) had gifted themselves an easy path to advance and tried to screw us over.

We were pissed. We complained to our regional commissioner, but he just said: "sometimes to be the best, you have to beat the best."

We smoked everyone and took the title, ironically our high point of the season as we ended up runner-ups in 3 other tourneys that season.

So, I'll say this, if we can't beat Paraguay, despite Richards returning only now and despite their qualification from a tough CONMEBOL, then I don't really care about excuses.

In our loss to T&T, Omar Gonzalez, a center back who should have never been on the field but a favorite of Bruce Arena, scored a ridiculous own goal that cost us the World Cup. I would not care if one of our forwards was out but I am scared about our back 4.

What a petty and vindictive notion.

Trump run on a platform and promises that were supposed to heal America and parts of the world, like ending the Ukraine war, not starting wars in the Mideast, prosecuting the Epstein coverup etc before pulling a 180.

Harming America would be supporting Trump today.

They're no pushovers, a majority of their players play in the top Argentina and Brazil leagues.
