Dumb economics question (semi-sports related) about "surcharges"

How long do you want to ignore this user?
So as those on the boards know Cal BB just put a 4% surcharge on season tixs to help with NIL funds. Highly supportive but I don't want this thread to be about that.

Has anyone seen any good research (or has direct knowledge from their own companies/industries) about putting on these surcharges as opposed to...you know....raising the base price? Anecdotally and personally not a fan of it over the hospitality sector (I HATE ++ on catering - just raise the f'ing prices) but maybe I am missing something and there have been good marketing studies evidence that it is less impact on demand than a base price increase.

I have stayed at hotels that advertise one price and then add on later a resort fee, a parking fee, and I'm sure others can detail other initially unknown "fees". I consider them to be scams.
