Finally?

Correct. Until Trump got the cowards in Texas to cave, mid-cycle redistricting was extremely rare. And let's not forget that Texas Republicans did not even let their constituents vote on the matter. Politics can be complex and nuanced, but hang in there!

What I dislike most about these efforts is that it creates more 'safe' seats, diminishing the need to respond to the voters. Since I can dream I'd like to see a national law about redistricting -- Allowed only after the census. Districts must be mathematically 'compact'. If a circle represents the most compact shape, I imagine there's some mathematical way to compare a district's shape to that metric. Then restrict the district's measure to some % of a circle. And finally, how the districts voted in recent elections must generate representation roughly equivalent to the state's overall voter split. So if 45% of the vote went to party a, the redistricting must result in that party getting 45% of the representatives, plus or minus some relatively small margin.

No chance of happening, but as I said, I can dream

I don't like the redistricting shenanigans from either party

Virginia Circuit Court just ruled that the Democrats' gerrymandering redistricting vote is unconstitutional.

The purpose of a political party is to consolidate power, nothing else. Choosing your own voters instead of voters choosing you is the end game of authoritarians.

No no, they're just defending democracy

Sounds about right with Col. Bone Spur warning his followers about the mail in ballot as they would be reluctant to cross their fearless leader while Democrats have no such issue with mail in ballots. Democrats would most likely be the ones to use mail in ballots which would put Republicans at a disadvantage.

Not that fishy.

This was the question on the Virginia ballot.

"Fairness" means one party rule?

That's how all ballot measures are written, Dem of GOP led.

Nothing to see here if you have ever voted before.

Is it? Would love to see some proof to back up that claim.

You can do a Google search for the last few ballots. I'm not in your class teach, I don't need to do your homework.

It wasn't homework, it was asking you to prove your own claim. Real tough ask…

In a case involving the state of Louisianna, the Supreme Court just said that you can't gerrymander by race.

Huge blow for the Dems. They will have to come up with good ideas instead of relying on racism to stay in power.

Early still but "No" currently up 54-46 with nearly 50% of the vote in

I think it'll likely end up with a "Yes" win and then the Supreme Court overruling it in the long run

Great call! The Virginia Supreme Court has overturned the Democrat gerrymandering referendum, ruling that the process to put in on the ballot was unconstitutional.

Virginia will keep their 5 Republican districts.

Democrats wasted nearly $70 million on an unconstitutional gerrymandering scheme!

They made a huge mistake and wasted lots of money they don't have. The Virginia AG even tried to warn them that it wouldn't hold up
