What I dislike most about these efforts is that it creates more 'safe' seats, diminishing the need to respond to the voters. Since I can dream I'd like to see a national law about redistricting -- Allowed only after the census. Districts must be mathematically 'compact'. If a circle represents the most compact shape, I imagine there's some mathematical way to compare a district's shape to that metric. Then restrict the district's measure to some % of a circle. And finally, how the districts voted in recent elections must generate representation roughly equivalent to the state's overall voter split. So if 45% of the vote went to party a, the redistricting must result in that party getting 45% of the representatives, plus or minus some relatively small margin.
No chance of happening, but as I said, I can dream

This was the question on the Virginia ballot.
"Fairness" means one party rule?

In a case involving the state of Louisianna, the Supreme Court just said that you can't gerrymander by race.

Great call! The Virginia Supreme Court has overturned the Democrat gerrymandering referendum, ruling that the process to put in on the ballot was unconstitutional.
Virginia will keep their 5 Republican districts.
Democrats wasted nearly $70 million on an unconstitutional gerrymandering scheme!
