Maybe don't force the pass to Walker ever time you drive into the paint?

Bears just don't have enough talent. Half of the team isn't good enough to sub in- why were they given scholarships-'cause no one else better wanted to come here?

Sigh. Clemson got the rolls, got the calls, got the win

^ that's just a pathetic 100% not true take (excuse), the refs had nothing to do with the outcome, a fatigued bears tight playing rotation could not match the energy & physicality of the tigers

I think the next step for Charmin is recruiting more ACC caliber players. The Bears just don't have enough depth to compete with the quality teams in the conference consistently. There's a considerable dropoff when she goes to the bench and that puts such pressure on the starters. And these days, trying to win with youth is near impossible because of the transfer portal. And Cal is a 32 percent 3-point shooting team, which isn't good but it takes a lot of those shots. Not sure what the recruiting class looks like next season but I do think the roster needs an overhaul to really compete in the ACC.

clemson tigers 70
california golden bears 63

the innovative clemson head coach found ways to play his 2 big body positionless basketball players at multiple positions including the 3 to create offensive mismatches which the tigers ruthlessly exploited for point blank baskets against weaker defenders...that's just good coaching

in the final minute of the 1st half a bear throws the ball outta bounds over 4 tigers that had a less than 1% chance of being caught by anyone under 8 feet tall, the camera pans to the cal bench and the head coach along with the 5 assistant coaches are expressionless/motionless

in the first sequence of the 2nd half a tiger throws the ball cross court outta bounds, the tigers fiery coach points to a bench player who immediately runs to the scorer's table and subs into the game for the errant passer...the tigers coach turns his back on the player as she runs off the court (message delivered) but then a tiger assistant coach sits next to the player & starts a conversation with hand movements (that's called player development)

as usual the better coached team won the game (they didn't make excuses for traveling 2600 miles, the soggy pancakes at breakfast, etc.)

This game is really exposing how much we miss Barnes.

injuries are part of the game, all teams including the bears opponents also have to contend with injuries

the bears are not losing games because of the injury to barnes, they're losing because the staff is not developing other players to step into key roles on gamedays for the inevitable injuries

I never want to see a pass into the paint to a player who is not open again in my life (which I guess means giving up my season tickets).

Disappointed with the beginning of the game. Disappointed at the decision making, especially on offense.

What happened early in the game had ill effects at the end of the game. So many wasted possessions early. And it wasn't just the multiple missed point blank chances - it was the poor decisions, the lack of ball security.

The fact that Cal was only down 4 in the Q4 is a testament to their effort and desire. But...need that for four quarters, not just when you're down 10 in Q4 and playing for your NCAA tournament lives.

The two challenges were terrible decisions too - they weren't even close.

Cal has to win the conference tournament to get to the NCAAs. Don't see that happening...

Must admit that I enjoyed watching Clemson in this one. All of their players seem to have been coached into a role that fits their abilities, and they play relentlessly. We have to make a lot of threes to beat a team like that.

Yeah, they had multiple ppl that were able to create their own shot and knock it down. Their mid range game was on point in the 1st half.

The play late in the game when the stocky player took Walker from the paint, out to the 3pt line and then drove to the hoop and juked her was just silly

Just over half (7) of their 13 players are seniors or a grad student.

Do I recall correctly that Puff and Grace McC teamed, at least twice during the fourth quarter, to effectively harass whichever Clemson player had the ball? I hope Charmin tries that again.

It's been discussed on this forum. Four freshmen: Two Aussies, one Greek and a 6'5 post player from Serbia who is committed but hasn't signed yet (will do in April).

From the portal, the Bears will be looking for an experienced post player and a shooting guard.

We lose Claudia and Sakima.

Prone to exaggeration, are you??

Only 4 of the 13 players on the roster did not see action tonight.

Taylor Barnes - out with an injury; could be back Sunday. We desperately need her!
Anastasia Drosouni - she played last Sunday; maybe a matchup issue tonight
Isis Johnson - Freshman; not quite ready for prime time.
Sofia Bowes - Walk-on.

Missing Taylor really affects our depth.

Tonight we shot a commendable 11 of 26 (42%) on threes but only 10 of 29 (34%) on twos. Clemson shot 23 of 42 (55%) on twos, IMHO that was the difference in the game. It looked to me like Clemson was better organized and ran their plays better.

Yeah, I'm getting pretty tired of that too. But what could drive me away permanently is the increased level of amplified noise. Over the last few seasons that's been more restrained at our women's games than men's games but not tonight. Sunday I'll bring earmuffs.

It looked like 3k to me, based on the men's game last night at which I was at. The key difference was hardly anyone sitting behind the Clemson basket in the second half. So, 2811 doesn't sound like a stretch.

that's an inaccurate excuse making comment, the play wuz shown multiple times on replay & gisella clearly did NOT allow the tiger to land (which the rules of basketball allow an air borne player to do so)...both announcers including layisha said it wuz a blocking call

stu, face the facts, the refs do NOT have a secret agenda against the cal women's basketbal leam

I'm not claiming the call was biased and I was at the game so I didn't hear the broadcast. I thought Gisella was set more than long enough but I'm not a referee.

At the Chalk Talk before the game, Coach Jenny Huth said that the Chancellor had invited faculty and staff to come to the game.

My section (16) was pretty much full. You could tell that there were some "new fans" at the game because of their late arrival. Lol. Many after the game had already started.

As usual Shocky and Stu, we have the situation in which someone points out a bad call and Shocky - you have to immediately assume that the complaint is based on a ref being biased. C'mon Shocky, that assumption that always comes from you is tiring.

I doubt anybody here really believes that the referees have a bias against our team. But watching these games it is so obvious that the quality of officating when watching Cal WBB is very poor. My only conclusion is these are refs that were simply not good enough to officiate the Men's game.

Near the end of the first half, the Clemson player drove across the key just inside the free throw line, literally picked up the ball with both hands, and then started to dribble again. Not one of the three refs could see what all in attendance could, (including Charmin and the entire Cal bench.) This is the kind of mistake a ref would make in a elementary school game. Too see it at this level is attrocious and it should be called out, the very same way Shocky that you constantly call out our administrators in the Cal athletic department.

Shocky, I almost always respect your opinions which you do not hesitate to put out. But man, you need to respect the right for other posters to express their displeasure the same way you do. Make sense?

My random thoughts:

Clemson outhustled Cal to loose balls, and were in attack mode on defense all night. Cal was inconsistent.

Puff has problems guarding faster players on the downhill dribble drive. She is solid otherwise. Someone needs to rotate and rim protect on those predictable plays.

The avoidable passing turnovers are painful to watch.

Shepard, Twidale and Maul match up to Clemson - others need to study and learn from the videos and improve.

Wouldn't surprise me to see Clemson in the Sweet 16. Cal in NIT.

But the playoffs can still gain big-hearted Cal a spot in the NCAA big tournament.

Shocky and respect in the same sentence? Good luck bud.

The injuries have hurt us this year. Losing Abigor hurt us. We just don't have the depth. I hope we can keep the core of this team together, especially with the talent we have coming in next year. 2 out of the 4 look like bonafide starters. Russell frankly looks phenomenal and it makes sense why she had offers from all of those top 25 programs. Cant wait to see who this mystery post is.

Step back a moment and think about the Clemson team you saw last night.

I believe they are a lot like the Cal team we had last season. Mirror image? Hmmmm.

Clemson:

#12 Moore, point guard. Think Kayla Williams.

#32 Thompson. A forward who can score. Think Michelle or Marta.

#11 Augustinaite, the Lithuanian sharpshooter particularly from 3. Think Ioanna Krimili.

Plus, their senior depth. Think Jayda Noble, Natalia Ackerman.
