No someone in this thread said they knew it was bad when Charmin shared doing an interview that Morris asked what her role was there . No I don't know the family just a huge fan of puff Morris all the way from Texas

I never said that.

While Puff was out, Mjracle took over the point guard position. She was a four-star recruit out of the State of Washington and played for Mississippi State and LSU before Cal. E X P E R I E N C E!

As I said, I believe that Puff asked that question of Charmin while they studied game film together while she was out with her injury.

If Puff feels she was treated unfairly, how does she feel about being handed the starting point guard role day one as a freshman? Seems to me the Cal staff had quite a bit of faith in her. Did she expect to be handed back the starting role immediately after her return? Well, I think the staff was being cautious with her injury recovery. Plus, that's not automatic. There's more competition in college ball than there was when she was the "star" at Etiwanda. Deal with it. Be a team player.

It is all a matter of expectations. If Puff aspired to be a solid back-up combo guard whose role is to set up others for their shots, she could be a valuable member of any team, although her height and lack of speed would probably call for shorter stints while others are resting. But we will now see which coaches in the portal might make her a better offer than that.

I would consider myself a Puff super fan, and in this era of NIL and portal and trying to raise my kids to be fans of Cal teams, it's hard when you get so excited about a superstar recruit like puff and she leaves.

That all being said, I will have a very different opinion of Puff's departure, depending on whether Lulu and Taylor stay or go. If either of them leave in the portal, then I think this was mishandled by Charmin and Cal. If we get to keep both of them because we couldn't pay for puff, that's the cost of doing business I think.

In an after game press conference, Puff said she was happy to be playing, because wasn't sure after the injury she sustained. (Not Verbatim) Her rehabilitation was successful and she did return to the court. I sometimes wonder if academics at Cal play a part in a player's decision to transfer. The best to Puff!

I think Puff is a good player. Playing PG as a freshmen isn't easy and you might know more about her recruiting conversations with Coach than me.

My comments were based on watching the AA game and EVERY Cal WBB game.

As for Maul, she is the best all-around player on this seasons team (offense, defense, defending 4 positions, rebounding, passing, decision making, hustle and clutch)

The fact that she is also probably the most improved player in the ACC also meant that her PT increased over the season especially when Puff was out.

from my view increasing Maul's PT was 100% the right decision for the team and I doubt Coach made promises to Puff for the entire season

I thank Puff for coming to Cal, over coming adversity and helping win games. She seemed like a good teammate and representative of the University. I wish her good luck with her future team who will getting a good player

Some may recall I had my doubts when she was recruited, and so did a lot of people -- which is why she ended up at Cal rather than at, say, UCLA or Michigan.

She pretty much proved to be as expected. A skilled and smart young point guard who is challenged by her height and athleticism.

Basketball is a very unforgiving sport. Weaknesses will be isolated and attacked, and Puff had enough of them, especially as a freshman, that she couldn't live up to her high school rankings. She might still, but I think what we saw is who she is -- though of course she will improve if she works hard at her game.

She might return as a senior for another school and beat us, but I can't disagree with the way she was handled this year, or her departure.

Yall keep saying she's slow on defense , include Lulu and Maul in that sentence because again WATCH FILM


Hopefully, our players get more better and we get more better players in the portal!

I think Puff is a pretty good player. She has guts and competes.

Does she have flaws? Of course. Quickness is one...improving the in-between game (pull up midrange and/or a floater) would help.

Injury didn't help and then coming off the bench when she did get healthy may have had an effect.

But this is a team game, so what can you do?

The portal/NIL gives players the freedom to call their shot. So be it.

Mjracle, while not a polished offensive player (neither is Puff at this point), gave the Bears a bit more size and with that, could at least matchup size-wise against the bigger guards. Also, what I call a glue player, a connector, a do-other-things-than score player. Every team needs those.

So to bag on Mjracle for only scoring 8.8 ppg? In my opinion, not a valid argument.

All things considered, Puff is (and will be) a pretty good player.

IMHO Mjracle was by far our best defensive player and defense is half of the game.

Agreed...and Sakima was a huge presence in the middle, which helped. Unfortunately, other teams exploited others in terms of point of attack...Mjracle couldn't guard everyone.

I thought Grace was pretty good. At least she seemed to be able to keep up but simply lacks experience. Hope she stays because I can see her becoming pretty good. Did not see enough of Isis to form an opinion.

IF things stay as is (not likely...but maybe?), Cal is still set up well in the backcourt...in terms of depth.

I don't like it when any player transfers out unless they were a problem in the locker room, which I don't think was an issue with any of them, and each players circumstances were/are different …

Zahra was the biggest loss in my opinion as she had good size, athleticism and skill, but needed to clean up her turnovers. Moving to shooting guard is a good change.

Kamryn looked like a good shooter but too slow to defend. I was hoping she could develop into a stretch 4 although she didn't yet have any post skills.

Puff certainly has potential and needs to improve her shooting to realize it.

Isis has potential as a defender and slasher but needs to improve shooting as a guard.

Oh man, thats a bummer, I liked Grace (and she coached my daughter in the Cal girls basketball camp). She's an example of how the portal sucks. I think she will grow into a great player but I also see why, given the finances of the situation, she isn't gonna be where we put our money. Yuck.

That hardly applies to Puff Morris. Or Grace McCallop for that matter. She was given a number of opportunities in games to show what she was being coached to do in practice. Particularly when Puff was out with the injury.

Yes, that would apply to Isis Johnson-Musah.

I just saw Tennessee has ZERO players for next year. I mean seriously, what is even the point of "college" sports any more?

I think a young woman from Hawaii would be partial to California as opposed to Massachusetts. Weather-wise. Lol. It certainly would be much harder for her parents to travel to see her play.

McCallop saw really limited duty, mostly at the end of the season. Averaged 0.9 ppg in 4.7 minutes per game. That is not development. We lost Zahra King last year for the same reason.

I liked McCallop in the season-opening exhibition game. She showed talent and needed to get experience. But there was really no plan for that.
