Is there a ranking for high school pitchers? If so, where is Alanna ranked?

The rankings and the stars are low key kinda meaningless. That's coming from multiple coaches I have spoken to about recruiting in softball. One of them said to me: "Stars don't mean much. They're just something fans can brag about during the off season". They're apparently an okay indicator of if a player looks really good, but coaches rely far more on what their production on the field looks like.

I use On3's star and ranking system as a frame of reference for their potential, but it's still hit or miss.

I believe that the Notre Dame three-game series is listed incorrectly on the Cal website regarding dates and game times. Indiana is in the Midwest time zone, correct? Can someone verify the days of the week and the time of the games for this weekend. Thank you.

"South Bend, Indiana, is in the Eastern Time Zone (ET) and observes Daylight Saving Time, aligning with cities like New York, not Chicago (Central Time). While much of Indiana is Eastern Time, the state has unique time zone divisions, but South Bend specifically uses Eastern Time year-round for flights, trains, and general activities. " .

Yes that must be weird for their Chicago fans.

As per Cal Softball earlier today on Instagram, Friday's game vs. Notre Dame was moved to Sunday (now a doubleheader) because of rain/wet weather expected in the area tomorrow.

Thus, the Cal website is correct.

Chabbear-thanks for the education regarding Indiana. I was thinking the state was more in the center of the country. I just looked at a map of the USA and it's below Michigan and above Alabama. I have been following sports my entire life and I didn't know that...Crazy! GO BEARS!

I watched the Cal-ND opener until the Fighting Irish broke it open in the B3rd.
Kiki Mashhoud pitched strongly over the initial two innings and Cal took the lead 2-1 in the T3rd
3.28-Season-Stats.pdf

Kiki yielded eight consecutive ground balls from the Irish batters that resulted in five singles, two groundouts and a fielder's choice. The latter was the key play because it was an out that needed to be made. ND had the bases loaded and Mashhoud induced a soft grounder to shortstop Robinson. Gator double-clutched on the throw home which allowed the base runner to slide in under the tag. It was an easy force play that was not made.

Steve Singleton has used his two pitchers with 7 ERAs to pitch the last two games. These pitchers are not going to strike out opposing hitters often so the defense must execute "makeable" plays. The Bears need to play nearly perfect softball to squeak out ACC victories. When one or two plays are not made, that's enough to break open the game. Kiki allowed 7 hits and 5 earned runs over 3 1/3 IP. She allowed only one extra-base hit (double).
This is the reality of Cal softball for 2026. GO BEARS!

Who would you put in? All of the core pitchers have ERAs between 6-7.5 range and none of them appear to be K pitchers.

(Didn't watch) Bears win 1st game of Sunday DH vs Notre Dame 10-2. Gerhard gets the W. Bears had a 5 run 3rd. Seems like ND had trouble securing the ball today.
Kayla Lee 4-5
Counts 1-3 3rbi
Marshall 2-2 3rbi

Update: Togia back in lineup for game 2. Andrade gets a start at 2b. Mashhoud on the bump

Togia singled in her 1st AB, was pinch ran for and then never reappeared. Hope she didn't reaggravate something

I watched the game today. This was the first game I have watched this year. Lee did a great job table setting. Cal had quite a few clutch hits with RISP. Cal stole 6 bases today and could of stole more bases, but it appeared Coach Singleton in the last inning lut the brakes on.. Togia was pinch ran for after her hit in the first inning. She came up to the plate walked over to the 3rd base Coach Singleton and it was reported she was ejected from the game. No reason was given for the ejection. The game announcers sounded stunned and said they had never seen this before and unsure of the ejection. Obviously, no sideline reported to disclose what happened.

Cal pitched well, defense played very well too. Great all around game for Cal. Let's hope they get a sweep today.

Thanks for the Togia explanation!

Going to try to catch as much of gm2 as I can

Like the running game today
Carly Raven 2-run oppo-taco up 4-3. Notre Dame seems to be cycling thru and giving their pitchers some looks too.
5-3 another ND pitching change

CLUTCH double play. Line drive to CF with the bases loaded and the throw home couldn't have been more perfect to nail the runner.

Bears up 5-3, T 4. Come on Bears. Let's get the sweep today.

I saw the end of the 1st game and all of the second. Tamya Waiters has not been used this weekend. Earlier in the season, I would have tabbed her as Cal's top pitcher. Now-she evidently lost the confidence of the coaching staff.

Cal needs to score more than 5 runs if they want to sweep this DH. In the T5th, the Bears answer with three hits and two runs to jump back in front, 7-5. Carly Raven connects on her second home run of the game.

Easy ground balls on three consecutive batters but Cal's infield is only able to generate one out. Second baseman does not have a strong enough arm to throw out the first one. Robinson boots a short chopper to SS
(should be an error). At the end of six, Bears have a 7-6 lead over the Fighting Irish.

Jesus Christ. The umpires call obstruction…call overturned. Runner on 2B with 2 outs now.

And now Notre Dame ties it on a pinch hit single. Being a Cal fan is just constant pain.

That was a terrible call. The base runner knocks into the 3B from the back trying to get the ball. Cal got screwed in my opinion. She has a right to the ball. I understand the rule, but believe this should have been the other way. Cal deserves the win.
Schroeder71
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Cal appears to win but obstruction is called on 3B Maddie Rey who was awaiting the throw from RF. The ND runner would have been out by 30 feet but is placed back on second base. Pinch hitter singles with two outs to tie up the game 7-7. Extra innings. Gator Robinson is 0-11 in this series. How about it? Nope-the Bear's top hitter is now 0-12. Cal has not had a base runner over the last two critical innings.

Mya McGowan yields a single and HR to her initial three hitters to allow the Irish to walk-off with a 9-7 triumph.
Why didn't they bring in Tamya Waiters? The freshman has now allowed 15 HRs in 59 IP.

Absolutely 100% correct. Straight BS. I would have got tossed out for that terrible call.

Notre Dame walks it off. Sorry. I don't care what the official box score says, that game was stolen from us.

The words I screamed at the tv can never be heard by anyone else.

Wow Singleton should have raised a huge stink and put the game under protest. That is awful and feel bad our Cal team.

Nothing to lose if he protested the game. That was a game ending double play that was reversed. Game over. Should had protest the call.

Great upset executed this afternoon over Louisville, 7-5. Cal's pitching yielded only four earned runs. The defense committed two errors which allowed a fifth run to score. The Bear's hitters tallied seven runs on eight hits. Four of those were doubles. Madison Rey was the only hitter with multiple hits w/ three. The two pitchers that stopped the Cardinals offense were Layna Gerhard & Taylor Peacock. Let's win this series! GO BEARS!

2026 Softball Roster - California Golden Bears Athletics

Out of five freshmen class members, only two have played this season. Mya McGowan was supposed to be a talented two-way player but has not lived up to her billing on either. Sophia Everett is batting only .200 but has shown some pop in her bat. Most of her hits have been for extra bases.

Is Nina Peyton-Johnson injured? I believe that she was supposed to be the second-best player of the group. Sophia Rolon is a lefty slapper w/ speed and Jade Diaz was an infielder that could hit.

When I look to next season's 2027 class, this year's class makes me doubt bigtime. Should the three inactive recruits of 2026 be added to Steve Singleton's initial recruit class of five for 2027 or are they likely out of the picture for the future? GO BEARS!

Another question re: 2027 ...what's with Alyssa Herrera? I would have expected her to be in the mix for MVP this year and she's totally disappeared. Injury?
Schroeder71
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I agree with you that Alyssa Herrera was the most highly touted returnee from last year's roster. She was 0-8 early on and has not seen PT since...

Kiki Mashhoud got slaughtered this afternoon. She yielded 9 hits & 6 runs in 3 1/3 IP. She now has a 7.93 ERA. The Bears appear flat emotionally today. I'm going to bail out of this game. GO BEARS!
Schroeder71
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Cal's defense is shaky. Louisville popped up to shortstop with two outs, but SS Robinson charged in and let the ball go over her head to the fringe of the outfield grass. If she would have stayed at her original position, she would have had an easy play for the 3rd out. Instead, the Cardinals lead 3-2 (T2nd).
Schroeder71

The Bear's pitching staff has to be the worst of the modern era. This softball team will not be able to be competitive until they find at least three quality DI pitchers. IMO, none of the existing five pitchers meet that minimum standard.

What kind of fan of Cal softball are you? Just a month ago you praised the pitchers for holding their own against two top 10 teams and soon as they don't perform as well you trash them. I think you should take a look around D1 softball on 2026 and put into perspective many pitchers' ERA's around this level have. This is one of the pitchers from OU for some context over a 9 ERA!. To say one day our pitchers did great then to turn around and say they aren't D1 worthy is diabolical
