After the T2nd, Cal leads 5-4. It's fun to watch the Bears bat, but it's not enjoyable to witness their pitching & defense. Anya German dropped a throw to home plate that would have been the third out in the B1st. Cal had an easy force out at second base, but Robinson's throw is off target and bounces off of Emma Jackson's glove.. Both of these misplays were not called errors by the official score keeper. Morgan Talley thumps a grand slam in the B2nd to make it 9-5 w/ one out.
The home plate umpire won't call strikes on the corners, so the pitchers have to throw the ball over the heart of the plate.
Grounder to E Jackson and she throws it away at second base for a double play or force. The play before that was a bunt directly back to the Cal pitcher, Tamya Waiters, but she does not come in to field it. She waits for the ball to roll to her, and runner is safe at first base. The fundamentals of defensive play for the most part are missing. Many of the fly balls go over the Bear outfielder's heads. Bottomline: errors are made virtually every inning whether they are physical or mental or listed as an error. Waiters walked in the 10th run in the B3rd with one out and Morgan Talley is due up.
After four innings, it's 10-5. NC State has brought in their ace, Morgan Talley, to pitch. She has not allowed a Cal hit over two innings w/ four strikeouts. This frosh phenom has a fastball at 68-69 mph and a change-up at 56 mph. Bears had runners on first and second base with no outs but Anaya Togia left early. Another mental error.
Bears rally late for four runs but fall short, 10-9. Offense has strong showing again with 9 runs on 11 hits. Mya McGowan hit her initial college HR and might be finding her hitting stroke (I hope)...GO BEARS!
