The Euro diluted Germany's trade surplus with the deficits of countries like Greece, Portugal, France and allowed Germany to maintain large trade surpluses without any effects on its currency, while the latter countries did not benefit from a self-correction that they used to have with their national currencies weakening enough to balance their trade.
