So, not empty. But why is FIFA renting an empty space from Trump?

Why did fifa invent a peace prize and present it to Trump?

We all know.

Guys can you put your owning the right mode on pause just a tad on this thread at least?

Now that is an interesting take. I have no idea but I am curious to see how the U.S. performs against top tier competition. I scrolled through the next several days of matches and with this expanded format, there are very few premium matches in the group stages.

It IS an interesting take.
I cheered everything about our win - except Tyler Adams being stupid to get a yellow and the laziness or whatever that led to the Paraguay goal.

If a team is losing 0-1, they earn zero points. It's incumbent to come attack. Paraguay didn't. The only good thing about 0-1 is it's not 0-2, and goal differential is an important tie breaker. If they figured they should continue rest and shorten the game, I could understand.

But then down 0-2, and Paraguay was still playing it safe… didn't make sense to me.

We saw lots of fight in them in the second half. Where was that early on??

Would be interesting to read the commentary coming from Asuncion today!!!

An American centric take on the game is that we simply look awesome. There were so many players that were performing so well, it was great to see.

I loved the width and overlapping runs of Sergino Dest and Antonee Robinson. There was lots of room for interplay/exchanges with Weston McKinney and Christian Pulisic.

We look like a new squad tactically.

To the contrary, I said at halftime, "it's almost as if the Paraguayans are being (financially) incentivized by some mysterious dark money force to guarantee a US win."

With 2 and 8/12ths trans advancing from each group, why not lay ons down to the home team and collect the limp biscuit reward? How much do you think it would take to buy them off?

Paraguay was down 1-0 and made no change to their defensive bunkering.
They were down 2-0 and made no change to their defensive bunkering.
Witnessing that was madness!
Seeing the above stats confirms the madness!

You think I'm joking, but I'm serious with my suspicions. Soccer is heavily susceptible to corruption.

Let's see if Paraguay comes out with a different attitude in games 2 and 3. I bet they look significantly better, and some will say it's confirmation the usmnt looked so strong. But I think I'll always asterisk this game with a question mark.

Good thing nobody checks your box score for the asterisk. It's been rare that we see a performance like that from USMNT, enjoy it.

I don't argue that FIFA is corrupt but this is very rich for someone who calls out right wing "conspiracies"

I wonder if there are any folks here that are so afflicted with TDS that they are rooting against the USMNT.

I would wager yes. I've seen posts on social media of US citizens saying they are looking for a new team to root for instead of the US with many landing on Mexico.

Which just goes to show how narrow and manipulative your social media bubble is.

The fact that I'm seeing posts from the left shows the exact opposite.

Predictions for today:

Switzerland 2-0. Qatar has struggled to score and Switzerland hasn't conceded many while qualifying unbeaten. Embolo will get at least one.

Brazil 2-1. Morocco is one of the tougher opening draws in this expanded field, their defense is top notch, but Brazil has too much attacking talent and depth.

Scotland 2-1. The Mc-Mc combo in the midfield will hold down Haiti's athleticism just enough. Haiti capitalizes on one mistake for a transition goal. Could easily see this being a 1-1,2-2 draw.

Turkey 1-0. Guler is one of the more exciting young attacking players for Turkey but defense and goalkeeping are Australia's stronger sides of the ball.

I feel justified in my prior shock of how dominating the performance was, as the dude in white says this is not only the best half of USMNT soccer but will be the most dominant half played by any team this entire World Cup.

(He refrains from wild speculation of game fixing, hahaha)

These dudes are psyched! Good listen if you want to get hyped.

UPDATE: Near the 20' mark dude tells the story of Balogun's recruitment to USMNT. He was Born In The USA but raised in England and was with their jr program but didn't see a clear path forward to the senior team. He also could have played for Nigeria as his parents are Nigerian.

But US players recruited him and then fans, once they hit wind of it, ambushed him in person and online and that meant a lot to him.

He wanted to repay the love, and certainly did last night.
(A 3rd Balogun goal was denied per offsides, VAR, fyi)

Birthright citizenship.

2. Flo Balogun, professional striker. It makes all the difference having one.

This was the biggest difference I noticed. A guy who could actually do something with the ball when he got it in a dangerous area.

But really, a shockingly dominant performance all around. I know Paraguay isn't one of the best teams in the tournament or anything, but they were supposed to be pretty good defensively and they got shredded. Maybe Pochettino's system actually is working. I've never seen a US team this aggressive on offense.

I agree.

And it's probably the fastest team SPEED that I have seen from a Men's Team USA ever.

Balogun and Pulisic (while he was in) were great, but I was also impressed with the US back 6.

It was great to get Richards back at center back and I thought Freeman played a good game too at right back. Paraguay's not a good team, but you could argue the only good chance they had all match was their goal. Mostly, the US just stopped Paraguay's offense before it could ever get started.

I also think Tillman played well at holding midfielder for someone who I think would prefer to be an attacking mid. He had a couple borderline calls go against him early (which is going to happen to everyone), and it was clear he wasn't happy. Instead of sulking he just kept playing hard. He made a beautiful long pass for the assist on Balogun's spectacular second goal.

Qatar would have stood a better chance against the Swiss at a hot weather venue like say Atlanta, 92F and steamy humid today. South Bay 80F bone dry weather conditions is a non-factor.

Top 3 teams in this group, Switzerland, Bosnia and Canada are pretty even (taking Canada's home field advantage into account).

Morocco-Brazil should be a barnburner, the Moroccans are fearless and well-organized. I'm going out on a limb and predicting an upset.

Morocco 3-2 Brazil
Turkey 2-0 Oz
Tartans 2-0 Haiti

I'm pretty sure BarelSane is BSing here, the stuff he gets about libs hating on the USMNT is guaranteed to be from "Amuse"-type account retweeting and amplifying some marginal loser's take.

The thing is, interest in world soccer in the US is mostly a liberal, urban/suburban thing, not the domain of rednecks, who take pride in hating all things soccer. That's why the story of libs rooting against the US is a very marginal thing that was most likely amplified through the Trump Devotion Syndrome online bubble.

How much royalty money does Alan Parsons Project get from FIFA for the use of their player intro music.

(You may recognize from the Chicago Bulls, too)

There is no public information on how much FIFA pays specifically for using "Sirius" by The Alan Parsons Project as its team walkout music, and it is unlikely that Alan Parsons receives a separate negotiated payment from FIFA for each use.

The reason is that major sporting organizations typically rely on blanket licenses from performing rights organizations (PROs) that cover large catalogs of music. Under those arrangements, songwriters and publishers receive royalty distributions, but the amount attributable to any single stadium play can be quite small.

Alan Parsons himself has commented that he earned surprisingly little from decades of "Sirius" being used as the Chicago Bulls' famous introduction music because of those blanket licensing arrangements. He joked that he finally received meaningful compensation when the song was prominently featured in the documentary The Last Dance, where the music was specifically licensed for the production.

Qatar would have stood a better chance against the Swiss at a hot weather venue like say Atlanta, 92F and steamy humid today. South Bay 80F bone dry weather conditions is a non-factor.

This is something I've noticed a few times so far: the European teams fading late in games and giving up leads. Switzerland just did it now. The heat in most American venues shouldn't be as punishing as Brazil was but I wonder if this is still a factor, whether it's the weather or the time zones or what.

I knew this Brazilian team was bad. But I did not expect 80% of the skill to be Moroccan. Crazy.

Brazil is good, but so is Morocco, best African team by far.

Nice individual effort by Vini, that is the game I thought we would have.

I took my son into Newark, NJ Ironbound district known for Portugese / Brazilian / Spanish immigrants. We ate at a Brazilian steakhouse. The 2nd half of the Swiss v Qatar game was on a TV across the room. I watched most of the 2nd half rooting for the red clad team thinking it was Switzerland. When Qatar scored I thought it was the Swiss. Lol.

Left the steakhouse and went to an outdoor watch party. About 1000 people inside the grounds and a few hundred outside watching from the sidewalk. Place erupted when Brazil scored. Got to expose my son to all that. That is what I love about the World Cup.

We left at half because I'm old and wanted to beat the traffic and the chaos.

Not historically bad. Bad by traditional Brazilian standards. Not a threat to win the Cup.

I've never, ever seen a Scottish team, soccer or rugby, play in red. WTH.
