The second photo is Liam Ramos after a few days in an ICE camp.
2025 was the deadliest year on record for ICE.
The conditions are appalling.

The Springsteen song about the ICE shootings in Minneapolis brought to mind some of the hurriedly written and released political songs of the past. Ohio (1970) was written by Neil Young, performed by CSN&Y and released a month after the shootings at Kent State.
Two years later Neil wrote a campaign song for George McGovern backed by the Stray Gators (who backed him on his Harvest album). He also stuck Graham Nash's name on it. I thought it was a good song and bought it.
*Back in those days, this is what you bought, a .45 rpm single:

1. I actually agree with much of what you write here. A pox on both parties; there is plenty of blame to be spread around. And yet, they said the border couldn't be closed, but since Trump came back in, border crossings have dropped dramatically to the point where that has nearly been achieved, even without finishing the wall. In addition to fewer illegal immigrants, this means greatly reduced drug and human trafficking. And if we actually held employers responsible for obeying employment laws, the numbers would be reduced even further. None of this is to preclude legal immigration. There's a process and people coming into this country should be vetted and admitted based on legitimate refugee status (not economic), the benefit they provide to the country and some family immigration. Is this not reasonable? Sadly, MAGA is the only political group that has accomplished anything on this front. Most leaders in the Dem party in particular have done everything possible to sabotage progress and many are unabashedly against any restriction on immigration whatsoever. Can we agree that this is insanity?
2. Basically agree. So why are people like Pretti preventing ICE from apprehending ALL illegals for deportation, even the violent criminals? Why do sanctuary cities protect them? Why are Walz and co refusing to cooperate with the Feds to deport illegal criminals from prisons? Fetterman has been quoted as saying that 67% of the illegals being rounded up by ICE are criminals. I don't know exactly how he defined that but I don't think it includes jaywalkers and people with speeding tickets. We have plenty of criminals already, we don't need more even some people think of them as "neighbors."
3. Having a heart for the individual is to your credit, but where are the limits? Despite some of the highest taxes in the country, CA has massive deficits and some of the highest poverty rates in the nation. Why? CA is a magnet for illegals because it pays. People respond to incentives. That doesn't make them evil, but it does mean that we have to be careful that we don't create a system that incentivzes people to come here without the ability to support themselves. 1.6-1.7 million illegals in CA receive free health care. They get EBT and qualify for all kinds of benefits including preferential admission and grants to our very own UC. The burden to the system of this generosity is staggering. In what universe does it make sense? Take away the benefits and millions of these people go home. Heartless? Hardly, they are no worse off than they were before, and if they are on government benefits, they are not adding to the system, they are detracting from it. Yes, but we need the labor illegals provide, you say. Really? If illegals left, wages would rise and Americans would take on many of these jobs. Isn't this what the Democratic party is all about? We have an overabundance of low-skilled workers already. Seasonal agricultural labor can be brought in on guest-worker program basis. It happens regionally in Mexico.
4. If illegals and other non-eligible voters are not voting, why are Democrats so violently opposed to ID verification, scrubbing the voters roles, any restrictions on mail-in ballots etc and why are systems like the CA DMV set up to allow voter registration without any verification of citizenship? If Dems have nothing to hide, why not increase confidence in the system and dispel the conspiracy theories by advocating for election systems that are provably fair and transparent?
Reasonable adults can disagree on some of the particulars but I think the vast majority of Americans want a secure border, they want criminal aliens to be sent home, and they want government aid to primarily go to American citizens. Both parties are part of the problem, but the leaders of your party and the radical left are opposed to all these things. That was my point.
